A Certain Accelerated Railgun: Accelerator x Mikoto

Chapter 7: Rest & Recuperation

Accelerator slumps over next to the table where Last Order is laying on.

The young girl who appeared earlier vanished.

(So, its finally over), thinks Accelerator.

Accelerator looks over at Mikoto's bloodied and broken body.

(I need to get her to Heaven Canceller before its too late).

Accelerator attempts to get up to get both Last and Mikoto, but three robots and an individual hidden in the shadows approach him.

"Hello Accelerator?" Asks the shadowy figure.

Accelerator looks over at them and realizes a bit of his calculation ability has returned as well as the figure is speaking to him through telepathy.

"It seems as though you've noticed haven't you. I made arrangements for several telepaths," says the figure again.

"What do you want?" Asks Accelerator.

"I would like to talk to you about the several disturbances you've caused."

"Am I to be sliced up for research purposes?"

"Its an option. But, why not work for us?"

"Is a war coming?"

"I can't disclose that."

"You can't huh? Then I have but one thing to say. Screw you and your offer."

"We're in a critical moment in the city , we want the best outcome and for that we need your help. Imagine if the city was completely wiped out. Are they any places for us espers to go to? What would we do without this scientific haven?"

"Will you tell me one thing?"

"What is it?"

"I'm going to get whoever did this to Railgun and the kid."

"I don't see what that would accomplish. He would be a scape goat nothing more."

"You don't say?"

"Well, what will it be?"

Accelerator looks down at Mikoto, then at the ground.

Accelerator gives off a soft chuckle.

"You know, there was one mistake you didn't account for," says Accelerator.

"What would that be?" Replies the figure.

"Her."

Mikoto manages to regain conscience and uses her railgun at the ceiling. The ceiling begins to collapse and the three machines plus the figure begin to slightly back away.

Once the dust settles down Accelerator, Railgun, and Last Order have disappeared.

- Early Morning Next Day -

Heaven Canceller sits at his office as daybreaks falls upon the city.

He prepares for who may come across his doorstep.

Suddenly, the door swings open and Accelerator is seen standing there.

"Whats going on?" Asks Heaven Canceller.

"Doc, I need your help... NOW!" Demands Accelerator.

Heaven Canceller moves aside as Accelerator enters laying Mikoto down on the bed.

"What happened?" Asks Heaven Canceller as he begins to get ready for work.

"She's taken major injuries, I tried my best to keep her alive while I came here. It took most of whats left of my ability to make it here," states Accelerator.

"You have to leave the room, I'll get to you once I'm done with her. Its a miracle she's still alive," says Heaven Canceller.

"Thats why I brought her to you."

- Some Time Later -

Mikoto opens her eyes to the bright shine of sunlight. As she gets up, confusion shows on her face.

She looks down at herself to see multiple bandages and that she is in a hospital bed.

When she attempts to get up she notices someone beside her face plunged into her bed with arms crossed over their face.

It takes a moment for Mikoto to realize its:

"Accelerator?" Asks Mikoto to herself.

"Well good morning Railgun!" Says Heaven Canceller.

"Its you, but, how did I get here?" Asks Mikoto.

"Well you can thank that boy there. He ran all of late last night as well as the wee hours of this morning to get you help. He even sacrificed much of his ability for you to stay alive before he got you here. I worked hard to heal both of you, but without him, you wouldn't be alive right now."

Mikoto looks at Accelerator again. He was passed out from all of that hard work to keep her alive.

"I would recommend that you stay for awhile. In the mean time, I have to go take care of something." Heaven Canceller leaves.

Mikoto slumps back into her bed when she hears: "Finally gone."

Mikoto turns to Accelerator as he leans up.

"You... saved me," says Mikoto.

"Yeah," replies Accelerator.

"But, why?" Mikoto asks.

"You saved me didn't you, at the very least I owe you that," Accelerator replies.

Mikoto looks at Accelerator.

(Perhaps there is more to him then what he lets on), Mikoto thinks.

"Accelerator, you mentioned before that you were caring for the Sisters right?" Asks Mikoto.

"Yeah, why do you ask?" Asks Accelerator back.

"Perhaps I should repay for sins as well. I owe them as much as you do, perhaps together we can protect them and give them the lives they deserve," States Mikoto.

Accelerator looks at Mikoto.

"If thats what you want to do, then by all means do it. Just don't slow me down," Accelerator states looking away.

Mikoto slightly smiles at Accelerator's action knowing that this is his way of showing that he cares.

For the two of them, this would be a change in their history.

"You can't protect the two of them forever old friend," States Aleister.

"I'll do whatever I can to protect my patients," states Heaven Canceler hanging up the phone.
