Chapter 2

*The next day*

Y/n pulled into the parking lot and sighed as she parked her car. She put her head on the black steering wheel and began talking to herself

"You got this. The boss liked you enough to hire you! The others will like you too. Just be yourself. Calm down" She said.

A knock on her car window made her jump up. She raised her left hand, ready to attack whatever was outside.

Jim Halpert waved to her and chuckled. Y/n put her hand down and laughed at herself. She turned her car off and grabbed her bag. Jim stepped away from her car as she opened the door and got out

"Hey" he smiled at her

"Hey" she smiled back and locked her doors

"Nervous?" Jim asked her as they walked into the building together

"Nope" Y/n shook her head no

"Really? Because that little pep-talk you just gave yourself kiiiinda proves otherwise" Jim chuckled as he pressed the elevator button

Y/n cleared her throat and let out a small giggle. They stepped into the elevator and Y/n looked down to her feet

"I might be a little nervous...I have some weird need to be liked. If someone doesn't like me...I completely shut down" Y/n laughed to herself

"Well, I like you already. Michael likes you. Which means that by default, the others will like you too" Jim chuckled and hit the floor number

The ride up was quiet but nice. Y/n didn't feel like it was an awkward silence. She felt comfortable. When the doors opened Jim stepped out. Y/n didn't move

"Come on. Can't be late for your first day" Jim chuckled and nodded to the glass door marked

"Dunder Mifflin Paper Company"

Y/n slowly stepped out of the elevator and gave Jim a soft smile. The pair walked to the door and Jim opened it up for her. The smell of paper, printer ink, coffee, and cookies hit her in the face. She inhaled and walked in with confidence

"Hey, it's the new girl. Walking in with Jiiimmm" Meredith yelled out. Everyone stopped what they were doing and looked to Y/n.

"I knew it" Kelly proudly said

"Knew wha-" before Y/n could ask her question, Jim walked up behind her and clapped his hands together

"Okay. Enough. The New Girl has a name. Y/n. She's going to be our new receptionist now. Be nice to her, guys. Try not to scare her away" Jim said. He smiled at Y/n and walked to his desk

Y/n sat down at her desk and looked around it. She was familiar with being a receptionist. She used to reception for a law firm for 4 years before this job

She reached into her bag and pulled out a beautiful clear glass bowl. She pulled out a bag of candy and emptied it into the bowl. She gently set the bowl on the edge of the desk and began unpacking her stuff

"Oh, you're here! Why did no one tell me she was here!?" Michael yelled at everyone as he walked out of his office

"Conference room!! Now! Right now! Let's go!" Michael yelled again. Everyone slowly got up and walked to the room. Except for Dwight, he ran. Jim looked to Y/n as he stood up

"Bring a notepad and pen for notes. Michael likes to read them back later on" Jim said

Y/n held up her pad and pen and waved them a bit as she walked past him. Jim smiled

"Ah, you already knew to do that" he chuckled as he filed in line behind her

"Hurry up!!!" Michael jumped behind Jim and pushed him towards the room. Jim bumped into Y/n's back and grabbed her waist to steady the two of them
