Chapter 12

*The next day. Your Pov*

I sat at my desk and smiled at all the birthday cards I had hanging up

"Morning" I heard Stanley mumble as he walked by my desk

"Morning" I smiled at him

"Howdy" Andy nodded to me as he walked towards his desk

"Hey" I said

"Y/n, I'm over him! I'm done! Done with Ryan. Completely done!" Kelly said as she stormed up to my desk

"Good for you" I proudly said

"Hey babe" Ryan said to Kelly as he walked by us. He didn't even look up from his phone. Kelly looked to me and giggled

"He called me babe. We are so back on" she quickly took off after him

"Oof. They are a mess" I quietly said to myself

Dwight walked in and headed straight for his desk

"Guten Morgen" I called out to him. He froze and turned towards me. I wiggled my eyebrows and smiled. Dwight's been teaching me German

He nodded and smiled in approval of my progress. He turned back around and set his things on his desk. Everyone else filed into the office and got set up at their stations

Jim was the last person in to the office. I didn't look at him. I've been avoiding him since my party

"Hey" he said as he walked by. I looked up and gave him a quick short nod before looking back down at my desk

He sat down and turned on his computer. I could feel him staring at me but I didn't look up.

*A few hours later*

I managed to go a good bit of the day without having to speak to Jim. But he didn't make it easy. He would come up to my desk for the littlest of things

Jim stood up and walked up to my desk. He leaned forward and smiled

"Hey, do you have a paperclip?" Jim asked me

"You have some on your desk" I nodded towards the cup of paperclips sitting next to his computer

"Oh, right. But you have the...pink ones" Jim half smiled and grabbed a pink clip from the jar next to my computer. He turned around and walked away

I sighed and looked down to my phone, reading Jim's messages from last night

6:30pm Jim- "Hey 😊"

6:50pm Jim- "I hope you had fun today! Besides the whole...your ex showing up to blackmail you lol"

7:00pm Jim- "I forgot to tell you! A buddy of mine is having a house warming party this Sunday if you wanna go with me. Sunday is a weird day to have a party but 🤷🏻‍♂️"

7:15pm Jim- "You must be tired from today. Probably sleeping so I'll just see ya tomorrow 😊"

11:48pm Jim- "I'm sorry if I did anything to make you uncomfortable today. If I crossed the line I'm very sorry"

11:50pm Me- "It's fine"

And that was it. He didn't reply and I didn't say anything else

"Hey" I heard Jim say. I was a little startled so I jumped and dropped my phone. I quickly flipped it face down so he didn't see that I was rereading the messages

"Whoa. Someone's jumpy" he chuckled

"Yeah" I awkwardly laughed

A terrible awkward silence filled the space between Jim and I. I looked to my right and saw Kelly at the copier
