Chapter Twenty Three
Clara's Pov
Turns out I knew very little about Caius. Standing in front of a penthouse apartment door, I wondered how on earth he managed to afford such a luxury piece of real estate.
Caius unlocked the door, and placed the bags down next to the door. The skyline of Manhattan illuminated the apartment as they walked in, the need for lights were minimal as the city that never sleeps provided they with ample light to shuffle in the spacious entry way.
Caius flicked on the main lights. "The bathroom is the third door on the right, and your bedroom is the next one along."
I felt overwhelmed, this place made my shabby place feel like an inhabitable structure, let alone a home.
I nodded, unsure of what that meant. At home we shared a bed, and although the anger and confusion from earlier that evening still bubbled beneath the surface of my mind, I felt a lot of disappointed in my stomach when I realised we were not going to be sleeping in the same space.
"I'll give you tonight to settle. Tomorrow morning we have somewhere to be, so get some rest." With that, Caius shuffled through a door leaving Clara standing in the hall.
Hearing the shower start, along with the low hum of a bathroom fan before I sighed deeply and pushed the door open to my temporary bedroom.

Sleeping alone was something I had trouble getting accustomed to again. Tossing and turning in the night, I found the pillow to be either too hot or too cold. The sheets tangled uncomfortably around my legs.
Staring at the dark ceiling, I huffed before flinging the sheets off storming towards the door.
Swinging into the hall way, I didn't even knock before entering the room which Caius has claimed. In that moment I couldn't care less if he was asleep or not.
Laying on his bed, a book in hand, Caius didn't even pause when I burst into the room. I knew he had seen me, the swift twitch of his eyebrow and flicker of his eyes were a dead giveaway.
"Ok, I get it. Someone is trying to kill me. Tomorrow we have to meet some mystery guy who I don't know anything about and you made me travel across states to, and I quote 'keep me safe.'
"and yet you refuse to give me any information other than said man knows who is trying to kill me? And you just expect me to get a good nights rest?"I stand there, chest puffing in annoyance as he turns the page whilst glancing up at me without expression.
"In christ's name, would you stop reading." storming over, I yank the book out of his hands.
"Hey-" he stuttered reaching forward to snatch it back. Moving back a step, I toss it over my shoulder hearing the soft third of it landing on the carpeted floor."The worst thing of all, is that you expect me to just rest easy in a city I've never been to before, in a room which is so posh it makes me feel silly and to actually sleep without you beside me. So, no thank you."
I feel his eyes follow me as I move around the side of the bed and crawl under the silk sheets. Turning my back towards Caius I settle, breathing in his scent which lingered on the pillow.
"I think I'll stay right here."Switching off the bedside lamp, I could feel his gaze on me before I heard a soft chuckle. That's all it took for my heart to soften.
"Clara." He whispers.
"What?"
"Can I hold you?"
I lay still for a moment, before shuffling around, buring my head in the crook of his neck. I close my eyes and takes a deep breath, no longer angry as I feel his arms slowly wind around my waist and pull me closer.
Lifting my chin, I feel Caius move closer, his lips brushing mine gently. I moan gently, and with my body aching for more, I deepen the kiss. Dragging my fingers underneath his t-shirt, I lift it up, over his head and place urgent kisses on his chest leading up to his neck.
I felt in control. His hands rested on my waist teasing the front knot in my shorts. Deciding that I wanted more, I pushed myself up, twisting our bodies. Settling myself on his lap, I straddle his hips, hearing the loan groan my movements illicit from Caius.
Placing urgent kisses on his neck, I bring my body closer to his, our chests flush together."I hate you" I tease before continuing my attack on his neck, just below his ear.
Moving his head back into the pillow, I see him grin and he pulls my mouth back to his with a soft "I know."
