Lucid Patriarchy
by Zamzam Ahmed
——————————————You were supposed to be the father figure
Why
Why did you never take on that role
Like a father
The ones I saw on TV
And the one I saw in the house of every friend I ever had
I remember that time,
The look in your eye
The look you gave me
It was not the look of a father
I was not your daughter
And maybe
I never was
I was always told I was meant to forgive you
That somehow our blood made me owe you
That simple favour
How? Father
How could I ever forgive you
You were the first man I was meant to love
And perhaps
Perhaps
That's why I will never love again
