i just went on my first date
he was cute, dimpled, nice hair that fell in his face when he smiled - but he wasn't you
we watched a movie
i got cuddled, protected when the scary parts came on and held with no hope of letting go
but he wasn't you
he put me on his lap told me a story about a young boy
a couple actually
that young boy was him
he told me plans about what he had in mind for our future dates, they didn't include you
he texted me when i got home
i smiled about someone else
he made me smile
why couldn't you?
