Epiphany of a drowning girl
by Zamzam Ahmed
—————————————————I was a little child
The short, chubby curious kind
Looking for comfort in the solace of the vast ocean blue
I sought to satisfy my curiosity
Why did the waves roll in so low
The tides leap so high
And why could I not go in as well
I jumped from the tiny cliff
As id seen the children before me do
For a moment I was air bound and free
In the next I was choking, could barely breathe
I was a little child, when I drowned
I'm not sure if I thank my stars for the stranger
In the bright red trunks
Or curse the stars for letting me live
