Rylan's eyes widen as she pulls away to look at me. She opens and closes her mouth a few times before she gets any words out.

"Really?"

I nod, glancing at my father. He is glaring at Roger as the two argue as quietly as they can. Unfortunately for them, I can still hear.

"This is unacceptable! Just because they are mates does not make him exempt from the law!" My father snarls.

"You know he won't take anything until he gets to see her." Roger crosses his arms and glances at Kayn. I bump my arm against Rylan's and she watches the two as well.

"He can see her right now. That should be good enough for now." The finality in his tone makes me want to growl.

"You know what she will do if anything happens, right?"

"I can have her locked up as well."

"After you went through all that trouble to make sure she looks like the perfect replacement for you? You would risk your image and the respect of the packs to keep them apart? Just so that you can punish another alpha who, let's face it, isn't trying to get out nearly as much as he could be?" Roger asks, trying to be the calmest person in the room. Rylan stiffens next to me, and I look down at her.

She is staring at the two, trying to listen to what they are saying. I glance over at Kayn to see him hanging his head, as if everything that is going on is to much.

"I cannot just let this go without any consequences! He attacked another wolf, just like Cody, on someone else's land. But he did it because Cody attacked his mate. Anyone would have done the same thing... Hell, I probably would have killed him when we found them in the woods." Roger says, talking with his hands as he glances over at me.

"No."

The power in my voice causes everyone's eyes to shift back to me, even Kayn's. I start to walk towards Kayn, ignoring Rylan's protests for me to stay by her side.

My father grabs my arms, yanking me to a stop. Kayn snarls so loudly, the glasses on the desk rattles. My father doesn't move as he continues glaring at me.

"No, Kira."

"I am not some dog you think you can just order around! I am not a child anymore. I am the future Alpha of this pack, and you have no right to keep me from him." I state, lifting my chin up and standing my ground when he tries to pull me away.

My father snarls at me, his wolf not liking the challenge he thinks I am presenting him with.

I shrug, not that worried about his temper. He glares and tightens his grip on my arms almost to the point of pain. Both of us continue glaring into each other's eyes, not flinching for a second. Neither of our wolves want us to back down, we both have an Alpha Gene, and it won't let us back down and submit.

Kayn starts to jerk at his chains, the clanging echoes through the small room. Everyone whips to face him, and the chains snap free. And suddenly, everything is chaos.

Kayn shifts into his wolf, my father shoves me over toward Rylan. The betas and my father stand between Kayn and the door.

Rylan grabs ahold of my wrist as I step toward Kayn's wolf. She shakes her head at me, tugging me toward the exit. I pull my hand from hers, and dart past my father. He yells at me as I slide to a stop in front of Kayn's wolf. He tilts his head to the side, closing his mouth from the snarl it was in.

My suspicions have solidified - Kayn's wolf had been attacking Cole. I hold out my hand towards him and he laps his tongue against my palm.

I kneel down and look into his eyes, ignoring Rylan's protests from behind me. He presses his forehead against my own, and closes his eyes.

My father creeps closer to me, thinking he can sneak up on Kayn's wolf. He is completely wrong.

Kayn's wolf's eyes snap open and he leaps between my father and I. He begins snarling again and lunging at my father, forcing him to back away.

I stand up and Rylan's eyes meet mine. I set my hand on the back of Kayn's wolf, and he stills. He glances back at me, worry filling his blue eyes.

His beta, Roger, steps forward. Kayn's wolf snarls at him and Roger steps back. I take advantage of the situation and step in front of Kayn's wolf. My father reaches toward me and I shake my head.

"Leave us, he won't calm down with all of you here... I can handle myself," I add, noticing the look on Rylan's face. The males all stare at me like I'm crazy, but Rylan opens the door. She steps out and gestures for the rest of them to follow her. They all leave, except for Roger, who glances at Kayn before meeting my gaze.

"Get this under control, I'll see what I can work out with the alpha."

With that, he steps out of the room, the wooden doors slamming closed behind him.

I turn around to face my mates wolf, and he sits glaring at the door. His continues sniffing at the air, waiting for them to leave. I sigh and plop down on my father's chair, it's going to be a long night.
