WITHOUT A TRACE

PATTY'S GAME

After meeting Iris and Ben last night, Patty tailed them to their house to find out where they lived. Then first thing in the morning, she was waiting outside the house in her car and followed them to Benny's school. She waited until school was over having already prepared herself before hand by bringing her breakfast and lunch with her.
Call me crazy she said aloud but I'm prepared to see this through.
I have no intention of losing Barry ever again.
Alas! If she only knew that she had already lost the war before the battle even begun.
She saw Benny come out of the building with other children and walked up to him.
Their conversation began thus:
Patty: Hi Kid.
Benny: Do I know you ?
Patty: Yeah. I'm a close friend of Barry's. Your Dad. We met  yesterday at your Dad's house.
Benny: Right. I remember you.
Patty: How are you Buddy?
Benny: Don't call me that. My name is Benjamin Joseph West and if you are really close friends with Dad, you'd know that.
Patty: My apologies Benjamin. So, how old are you?
Benny: My mommy said not to talk to strangers
Patty: That's good advice except I'm not a stranger. I'm best friends with your Dad. More than friends actually. You see, your Dad really loves me and we are going to get married really soon and I want you to be a part of his life. A part of our lives but now that your mom is here,he might not want to marry me anymore
Benny: Why not?
Patty: Because he feels guilty not been there for you when you were born and your mom won't let him be a part of your life unless he marries her.
Benny: Mommy would never do that.
Patty: Oh honey,it's really sweet that you think the world of your mom but I know her better than you do..... You want to be with your Dad don't you?
Benny: Yes....
Patty: Well, the only way for that to happen is if your mom leaves
Benny: Leave? To where?
Patty: I don't care Benny. Just as long as she is far away from me and your dad. I know it's hard but it's for the best. Now, you will keep this conversation a secret between us won't you?
Benny: But.......
Patty: Just tell her you think you should move to England or Spain. Your Dad won't let her take you along,so she would end up leaving by herself. Promise me you won't tell her everything we discussed.
Benny: I won't...
Patty hadn't been gone more than twenty minutes when Iris drove into the school car park.
She found Benny sitting on his favorite bench by himself looking very sad.
Iris: Baby, What's wrong?
Benny: Nothing ma.
Iris: School go okay today?
Benny: Yes ma'am.
Iris: Moonpie? Talk to Mama. What happened?
Benny: Nothing happened ma. I'm fine really. Can we go home now?
Iris: Benjamin Joseph West,I am your mother and I know for a fact that you are not fine but we can talk about it when we get home. What do you think?
Benny: That's fair.
Iris: Alright then. Let's go home.
As Iris drove her son home,she knew deep within her that something was bothering him......
