Change- Churchill

The whole castle was abuzz with the news that Lady Sanya and King Edmund's courtship had ended.
After the various winnings had been collected, a new bet had sprung up- why had it ended?
Had Edmund found someone else? Had Sanya found someone else? Were the rumours of the Just and the Seafarer getting 'close' during the Voyage true? Had Sanya found that her feelings for the Gentle Queen ran deeper than that of friendship?

Edmund heard the rumours and immediately banned any betting or gossiping within the castle.
He had only heard the rumours because he had snuck into the Kitchens for food one night. He hadn't really left his chambers at all, other than a bit of sparring every few days, food and the occasional meeting.

Sanya, on the other hand, had not left her room at all. She, as her mother had often called her, had become the epitome of a recluse. She didn't need to leave her room at all, she justifed logically. There was a bathroom, she had books and her phone, Haline brought her food (god bless her) ever since she had heard of the breakup without even Sanya even asking for it.

"Oh, come out for a walk, sister." Caspian tried bravely. "You need some fresh air."

"There's air inside." Sanya informed him cuttingly, rolling her eyes, before looking back at her book.

Neither of the tan skinned people could understand and were simply bewildered when Susan burst into tears.

But now the former couple was now physically close again, after an entire month of complete isolation from each other.
Sanya had wet eyes and was trying not to punch something while Edmund hadn't raised his eyes from the floor once and was trying not to punch himself.

They were quite alone, Lucy and Peter having gone to Alidnia- quite alone, that is, unless you count Caspian suffering mentally in the delivery room while Susan suffered physically and was screaming bloody murder.

"GET IT OUT!"

"MY HAND!"

"YOU ARE NEVER COMING NEAR ME AGAIN, YOU TELMARINE BASTARD!"

"I AM SORRY, MY QUEEN!"

No one would have thought they had been so lovey-dovey when Susan had been taken to the medical suite in the beginning, kissing and cooing and all.

A month ago, Sanya and Edmund would have shared an amused glance and laughed.
Not anymore.

"It's a little prince." A nurse came out, smiling.

Edmund slumped against the wall and Sanya sighed, both of them happy and relieved.

The nurse continued, "The Queen has lost some blood and is healing, so she shall not be able to feed the babe. The King refuses to leave her side. Could one of you perhaps do it- if I get you a bottle?"

"I'll do it, I love babies." Sanya nodded at once.

The nurse bowed her head and went back inside, coming back some while later with a bundle in her arms and a bottle.

Sanya took the baby carefully, hoping she remembered the way to properly hold one.
Babies always made her gooey and emotional, she thought as she looked into the little face with the big, soft black eyes, forgetting about Edmund for the first time in weeks.
