Everyone had their secrets, and that included Tenn.
His was wearing female clothes.
Usually he wore them as subtly as possible - girls’ leggings that were maybe purposefully a little to big, or a woman’s collared button-up shirt that tapered a little too much at the waist. Whatever Tenn wore, it was nothing incriminating like a dress or a skirt, unless it was for fanservice or idol work. But sometimes Tenn felt the need to dress in full female attire. When that happened, he usually locked himself in his room and broke out his stash of female clothing.
Right now was one of those times.
Tenn slowly spun in front of his full-length mirror, a giddy smile on his lips. Almost shyly he looked at himself in the mirror.
The shirt he had on wasn’t really a shirt, it being one of those types that ended a little too soon over his stomach. It was a pale blue with ties on the sleeves, and he was wearing a matching sort of swimsuit bottom and a straw hat.
Next Tenn tried on a light dusky-rose coloured sundress. He clicked his bangs back with two barrettes shaped like elegant flowers and put a black choker on. Tenn pulled on black leather boots with one-and-a-half inch heels and flashed himself a half-smile-half-smirk that was equal parts sultry and sweet. Perfect parts badass and cute, Tenn thought to himself, then went back to searching to his stash.
“Oi, brat.” Tenn froze upon hearing Gaku’s voice, until he remembered that his door was locked.
Until it wasn’t and the door clicked open.
“Ryuu made dinner, so-”
Tenn felt like time froze. He could pinpoint the exact moment Gaku stopped moving and stared at him, taking in what he was wearing. At the same time Tenn felt like running, crying, and kicking Gaku in a very private place. Maybe all three at once.
Before Tenn had time to open his mouth to defend himself, he found Gaku dragging him out of the safety of his room and into the rest of the dorm. Tenn shivered, suddenly scared. What if they threw him out of TRIGGER?
Of course, everyone had fears as well. Sometimes, fears and secrets overlapped.
Tenn’s secret, most inner fear was that Gaku and Ryuu would throw him out of TRIGGER. And to his heart, that scenario was right around the corner - literally, since Gaku turned and dragged Tenn into the kitchen.
“Ryuu,” Gaku demanded, finally letting go of Tenn, “Look.”
As Ryuu turned Tenn shrank back, trying to will himself invisible as he scooted behind Gaku. He peeked out from behind Gaku’s arms, eyes wide.
Ryuu’s eyes softened, but Tenn still didn’t know if he’s seen him or not. “Tenn,” He said gently, holding his arms out, “Come here.”
Tenn furiously shook his head. His fight-or-flight instincts finally kicked in, and Tenn chose flight. He bolted for the bathroom, slamming the door shut and triple-checking that it was locked. He sat on the lid of the toilet, hugging his knees to his chest. He finally allowed his tears to spill over. Tenn was a little confused on why his tears were black, then remembered that he’d put on a little makeup beforehand, including mascara.
Through his tears Tenn heard Ryuu say, “Gaku, let me handle this.”
Tenn heard Ryuu sit down in front of the door. “Tenn,” He said soothingly, “Calm down. Why don’t you come out and tell us what happened?”
Tenn sniffled and shook his head, despite knowing that no one could see him. Ryuu started talking, and Tenn knew that if he listened long enough he’d break. So he uncurled from his place and stepped into the shower, turning it to a ‘gentle’ setting. Hot water rained down on him, and Tenn tilted his face up towards it, trying to tune Ryuu out and focus on other things. He’d purposefully left his clothes on, on the sundress was turning thin and transparent and his boots were soaked.
“Goddamnit, this isn’t working Ryuu!” Tenn heard Gaku yell, smashing his fist against the door and startling him into letting out a yelp, “We need to get him out of there. You know how he is.”
Tenn heard Ryuu stand up. “I agree, but shouldn’t we let him come out in his own time?”
“No,” Gaku said, nearly growling, “For all we know, he’s drowning himself in there.”
“Gaku, wait, no-” Tenn heard Ryuu say, and then he remembered that there was a key to unlock the bathroom door outside. Desperately Tenn turned the water off, ignoring the way his sundress stick to his legs or how his boots were really uncomfortable as he shoved his shoulder into the door as the locked clicked. Even knowing that Gaku and Ryuu were both stronger than him, Tenn put his weight into keeping the door closed, his hands closing around the door handle.
“Bullshit, Tenn, let me in!” Gaku yelled, and suddenly Tenn was overpowered. He yelped and tumbled back, and he would have fallen if a pair of arms hadn’t wrapped around his waist. Tenn clung to them for a moment, then tried to flee.
“You aren’t going anywhere, brat,” Tenn heard Gaku mutter into his ear. He pulled Tenn towards him and Tenn’s head hit Gaku’s chest. Gaku picked him up like a child, wrapping Tenn’s legs around his waist and proceeding to the kitchen.
Behind them Tenn heard Ryuu say, “Gaku, he’s wearing a dress!” before following after a pause.
Tenn thought they’d be going to the kitchen, but instead Gaku passed through the kitchen to the living room. He sat down and plopped Tenn between his legs. Ryuu had an armful of towels and Gaku took one, gently unclipping Tenn’s barrettes and starting to dry off his hair. Ryuu took off his boots and socks and started towelling off his legs. Tenn sniffled.
Both Gaku and Ryuu dried off his sundress as well as they could but didn’t take it off after Tenn shook his head so violently he thought he might’ve gotten whiplash. They settled for dropping a towel around his shoulders, and Tenn shivered.
“Will you abandon me?” He whispered, feeling tears rise up in his eyes again. Ryuu looked at him questioningly, and Gaku stopped re-clipping his hair.
“What do you mean, brat?” Gaku said, but his voice had no bite in it. Tenn was used to Gaku being all sharp angles, not being soft and gentle like this.
“Will you both throw me out of TRIGGER?” Tenn whispered, his voice nearly inaudible. He only knew that Gaku and Ryuu had both heard because he heard their breaths catch.
“Of course not, Tenn,” Ryuu said, his eyes soft, “We could never.”
“Yeah,” Gaku huffed, pinching Tenn’s cheek, “What led to that train of thought, brat?”
“So you aren’t mad?” Tenn whispered. Ryuu smiled at him.
“We could never be,” He said, brushing his hand through Tenn’s hair, “At least, not for long.”
“Seriously,” Gaku huffed, finishing re-clipping Tenn’s hair, “Where do all these thoughts come from, brat?”
Suddenly Tenn felt his body course with relief and went limp with it. Exhaustion followed in its wake. “I’m glad,” He mumbled, and then Tenn couldn’t keep his eyes open any longer.
