**BLADE'S POV**
Ashlyn frowned beside me. "Drake? As in the-OW!" she screamed when I stomped on her foot hard. She turned to me with a scowl, and I glared at her.
"As in the what?" Ashley asked curiously, head cocked at us.
"As in dragon," Ashlyn answered quickly, effectively covering up her fumble. "The name Drake comes from the Latin word draco, which means dragon."
"Oookay...?" Matt raised an eyebrow at her before turning to Andy. "We brought steak."
"Cool. Then you can start the grill."**A FEW HOURS LATER**
I was tense the entire time. I tried not to look at Blade, but it was really hard. I kept glancing over at him repeatedly, only to catch his eye and immediately look down, blushing. Thankfully, no one else noticed it. No one, that is, but Ashlyn. "So, I'm guessing this is the Drake you were talking to me about?" she whispered to me under the crackling of the fire and the laughter of the others. She motioned with an almost invisible tilt of her head to Drake, who was talking to Jayy in between bites of his burger.
"Yeah," I muttered back, eyes locked on the fire. "That's him."
"You failed to mention he was a werewolf," she took a pen out of her back pocket and began to doodle on her arm.
"I didn't know!" I shot back quietly. I probably would've continued, had I not felt my phone buzz in my pocket. I took it out, wondering who the hell could be texting me, and saw the message was from Drake.'Hey,'it read 'Wanna get out of here?'
I looked up at him, but he wasn't looking at me. He was intently eating his burger, but I noticed his phone sat on the log next to him. 'yea,' I replied. 'But how are we gonna get away without people seeing?'
'I'll get up and walk into the house and out the front door. Wait around five minutes, then follow me. Okay?'
'Sounds like a plan.'
"Hey, Andy?" Drake said suddenly, catching everyone's momentary attention. "Can I use your bathroom?"
Andy nodded, a smile on his face. "Of course, Drake. It's upstairs, second door on the right."
Drake stood quickly. "Thanks," he turned and walked into the house through the back door. I even saw the light in the bathroom window come on after a moment. God he was thorough.
I waited exactly five minutes, just as Drake had said, then stood and tried to sneak away from the bonfire without being seen.
"Where are you going, Blade?" I heard CC asked from behind me. Flinching slightly, I turned around to find everyone looking at me.
"Oh," I prayed I imagined the crack in my voice. "I'm really tired. I was gonna turn in early."
"Are you sure?" Andy frowned, visibly disappointed. "You don't wanna stay a little longer?"
"No, I'm fine Dad," I shook my head. "Night everyone."
"Night," they all called back, returning to their conversations as I slipped inside the house.
I ran through the house as fast as I could without making a huge commotion, and met Drake on the front porch. "Hey," he said when he saw me. "Did you get away okay?"
"Yeah," I replied as we started walking in a random direction away from the house. "I don't think anyone really thought anything was out of the ordinary, except my sister.
"Your sister?" he looked at me with slightly worried eyes. "That Ashlyn girl?"
I nodded. "Don't worry, she already knows. She won't tell."
"Okay," he smiled slightly at me.
There was a long, awkward moment of silence followed before I finally broke it. "You didn't tell me you were a werewolf."
Drake smirked and looked at me. "And you didn't tell me you were a vampire, either."
We had reached the park by now. I headed over to a picnic table and climbed up onto the top, sitting on the table. "Because I'm not. Well, not completely."
He came up to sit next to me. "Care to explain that ominous comment?"
"Well, my dad was a vampire when I was born...." I trailed off with a sigh, unsure how to tell him the next part.
"Go on," he urged me gently. When I glanced at him, he gave me a gorgeous, reassuring smile. 'It's okay' it said. 'You can tell me anything.'
"My other dad was still human when he had me."
"Did you just say your dad had you?"
"Yeah."
"So, both Andy and Ashley are...."
"My biological fathers, yes. Andy got pregnant somehow with me and my sister."
Drake was silent for a long time. I was afraid to look at him, terrified of what his expression looked like; terrified he thought I was a freak. "You have a strange family, don't you?"
I let out a humorless laugh, still avoiding his gaze. "Understatement."
I felt him grab my chin gently, turning my head so I was looking into his sparkling blue eyes. "Does it bother you? What I am?" he asked, searching my face intently for an answer.
"No," I replied timidly, suddenly feeling shy for no apparent reason at all. "Do I bother you?"
"Not at all," he took his hand away from my face and grabbed my own hand. "You know what I think?"
"Wh-what?" I stuttered, caught in those beautiful, glittering eyes.
Drake leaned in closer and whispered softly, so that I could barely hear him, "I think you are the most wonderful, gorgeous, perfect man I've ever met. I think being apart from you makes my stomach ache like nothing else can. I think it doesn't make sense, because I just met you a few days ago, and I barely know you, but I think I don't care."
I blinked, completely taken aback. My head spun a little with the speed at which all this was going. "R-really?" I breathed.
He nodded, completely serious. "Really. I know this is going to sound stupid and a little nuts, since we just met, but I really like you, Blade."
I realized I was shaking, nerves making my throat run dry as he leaned closer, pressing his lips against mine. Immediately, my heartbeat picked up, and my mouth began to tingle under his. Before I even knew what was happening, my arms were wrapped around his neck, and I was kissing him back passionately. The feeling the bloomed through my body was indescribable. There were no words that could do it justice, nothing I could say about it, except that I wanted more.
Eventually we both ran out of air, and had to pull away. I leaned my forehead against his as we both caught our breath. "Drake, what're are we gonna tell everyone else? About us, I mean?"
"I don't really know," he admitted quietly. "I'm afraid my dad might freak out a little."
I thought about the way Ashley had acted earlier today at the mention of Matt. He had something major against him, that much was obvious. I didn't really think he'd be exactly delighted to find out I was going out with his son. "Yeah, mine might, too."
"So, we just don't tell them anything?"
"I guess not. For now, at least."
"Right," he pulled back and looked at me seriously. "So, what, we're just friends around them?"
I nodded. "That'd probably be best, yeah. Just for a little while."
"Okay," Drake stood and hopped off the picnic table. "We should probably head back."
I sighed, but stood and joined him on the ground. "Yeah, probably," I agreed, but inside I was disappointed. I didn't want this to end, but I obediently followed him back to the house, not seeing any other choice. I couldn't avoid my family forever, right?
