Chase Dawson.
That sneaky, lying little.....
Another bullet bounced off the shield that coated my body.
"Lieutenant Commander Wilder!" Drakes voice booms through the den den. "Come in! Wilder, where are you?"
I grab the stupid snail, gritting my teeth, "trapped between the last street and the bay... How are you holding up?"
"Better than you it sounds. Although, the three marines who have had physical contact with the captain have been turned into animals! Then he disappears." Drake sounded semi amused, which for the solemn commodore was actually a lot of emotion.
Out of the fifty marines I brought with me, twenty of them were out of commission, and eleven of them were turned into animals, got scared and fled. So that leaves me with a group of nineteen. Nine ensigns and ten ranging from chore boy to the infantry and sailor division. Which was just before the rank ensign, so they weren't much.
After Beast, the pirate captain, had changed my men into animals he took up a position on a near by roof. The name fit the uncanny man, he possesses a rare devil fruit that allows him to turn into any animal he pleases, or change anyone else into an animal. Though it doesn't seem like he can control what they turn into.
"You don't have to worry about losing him. He just arrived a few moments ago."
"You have eyes on the target right now?" Drake questions almost incredulously.
"Yes, he is currently standing on a roof, giving his victory speech looking very much like a rooster strutting it's stuff." I frown, knocking a bullet out of the air.
His crew had divided themselves and were now battling us and the other half battling Drake and his men. Even though my numbers were thinning I honestly wasn't worried. This is good training for them, a good source of future motivation, they won't want to be humiliated like this again, so hopefully they will train harder.
"You are going to need to engage him. Use your shield to keep him from touching you in anyway.-"
"Emerson! Marie! No! Don't charge him!- crap, you idiots!"
The two lieutenants had taken the rest of my marines and charged forward, believing their sheer numbers would be able to actually get a good hit in on the beastly captain.
The dark haired man simply laughs, stretching his arm, and then suddenly my marines are all animals.. And all growling.. viscously... at.. me... Crap.
"Gotta go, Drake!" I exclaim, leaping back from a clawed paw. "I'll try to make my way towards you, but I'll have to lose them first!" I add reluctantly, these were my men, even if they were confused animals right now. Before Drake can reply the snail phone is ripped from my hands, large, deep, claw marks lining the backs of my hands. I duck under a hoofed paw.
But then, before anyone could react, a strange blue light envelopes us all and my sight blurs and then I'm on my knees in some strange alley.
"I was wondering where you had gotten off too."
I swivel around, thoroughly shocked, "Law?!" Then I was mad, "What are you doing here?! Are you insane? Do you want me to arrest you?! You stupid kid, this island has quite an amount here, more on the way too! Enough to rival Whitebeards flagship right now! You need to get out of here! Now!" I ranted.
He rolls his eyes, "Calm down. I have no intentions of staying. I also have no intentions of owing a marine." He rolls his shoulders, looking around for danger. "You let me go and I saved you from being eaten." He smirks smugly, "I plan to leave now."
Then his bear friend Bepo is running up to us. "Captain! The marines are everywhere! There's no way we can escape now."
"See what I mean! I wouldn't have held that against you, I wouldn't have ever even seen you again if you had just done what I said!" I fume, leaning back against the alley wall, and rubbing my hands down my face.
Only to smear my own blood on my cheeks. Sigh. Why can't life just be simple?
I wipe the blood onto my sleeves, though I could feel all eight cuts were already healed, looking more like week old scars rather than moments ago cuts.
"Here," Law offers some bandaid wrap but I shake my head.
"I don't need it. Already healed." I sigh.
At his questioning gaze, I hold out my hands and he steps closer to look, he had no qualms with running his thumb over the bloody scarred skin, curiosity flickered in his eyes, before excitement.
What an odd kid.
"That's an interesting trick you've got going on. A devil fruit?" He questions, pulling out a cloth and wiping his hands.
"Yes. And I'm assuming the blue shield was your doing." I wipe the back of my hands on my pants, the red staining the white.
"Yes. The opi opi fruit." Law answers honestly. He didn't question my own fruit, but his voice was still laced with curiosity.
"Shield shield fruit. You've probably never heard of it. No one really knew it existed until I obtained it." I shrug, he didn't look satisfied, but he let it go.
My haki alerted me of a rapidly closing in presence, though it seemed familiar it also felt strange, different. Then they were leaning over the top of the building, only their silhouette could be seen, the sun blinding all else.
Then a second beside the first. I buried my face in my hands and groaned.
"How do you get yourself into situations like this?"
"Really Mara dear." Thatch's voice was held a familiar fondness. "Every time we find you, you are in one mess or another."
"Well.... this just got a lot worse." I mumble, glancing towards Law.
The kid stared in shock. His mouth hanging open as he gazed up at the Whitebeard Commanders standing over our heads.
