NARRATOR POV
kenzie lay in bed staring at the ceiling when her older sister charges into her room, eyes red and puffy.
"mads what's wrong?" kenzie asks her distraught sister
"i-i" the girl starts before more tears fall and she begins to get choked up "it-it's dad.. h-he's not doing too well kenz"
the brunette girl immediately shot up from her position on her bed and straight to her feet
"what do you mean maddie?" she stammers while her sister looks down to her feet "the uh the doctors don't think he's gonna make it this time"
"wa-what no th-that can't be i-i thought he was getting better?" mackenzie chokes dropping to her knees on the floor
"i know baby but all that matters right now is that we are there for him." maddie cries picking her sister rip off the ground and leading her out the door to the car.
the two sisters drove in silence to the hospital, both still in shock
they pulled into the parking lot and sprint straight through the doors passed the front desk and into their dads hospital room.
"oh dad" kenzie breathes running over to her fathers side a grabbing tightly onto his hand
"hey baby girl" he says softly squeezing her hand
"do you need anything? anything at all?" the girl asks her father as he shakes his head no with tears eyes
"no no i have everything i need right here" he tells her causing more tears to pile up in the two sisters eyes
kenzie slips into bed next to her father with maddie on the other side both enjoying their last moments with their beloved father crying and reminiscing on their childhood.
after two hours maddie and her father had both fallen asleep leaving mackenzie alone with her thoughts when her phone buzzes.
phone call from john 🥺
she slid to answer and tiredly held the phone to her hear
"hey" she breathes quietly
"hey baby- are you ok?" she hears her boyfriend chirp
"umm actually how's not the best time j" the girls replies with a shaky breath
"kenz tell me what's wrong i can tell your not ok"
"i-i uh it's my dad" she chokes
"oh my god princess. is there anything i can do?" he asks concern lacing his voice
"um no i just i really need to be with him ya know because umm you never know what's gonna happen" she cries
johnnys heart breaks a little hearing his girlfriend cry but he finds a way to swallows back the lump in his throat and say "i'm praying for you my love, call me if you need anything, anything at all. i love you"
"thanks j i love you" she says hanging up the phone and returning to her position on the hospital bed
