Alucard and you stayed in the castle for now while Trevor and Sypha left, off to do god only knows what. The first thing that you and Alucard did was clean up, seeing there was a significant mess left after the fight with Dracula. There was the issue of Alucard's old room, a space he had never wanted to enter again. You both decided to just close the room off for now, deciding that there was nothing to be done with it. It was his choice in the end with what happened to the room that his father had died in, the room he once slept in and played in as a young child. You respected this choice of course, not wanting to push him to do anything he didn't want to do. He was surprising emotionally fragile now, as if part of him died with Dracula which it did.
Anyway, now you stood in a large and circular room, a broom within your hands while you would sweep up shards of glass. You swept them into a neat pile, having to go across the entire room since the glass had gotten everywhere. Alucard was off fixing something else, or maybe just sitting around somewhere, you hadn't known what he was doing for sure but you didn't exactly care right now. He was having a tough time since what happened with his father was still so fresh, so you gave him some space for now. Of course when he needed to, Alucard came to you for comfort and support. This occurrence was rare since he hadn't exactly had someone like you to help him through these tough times for a while.
The glass would scrape against the ground as you brushed it all into one pile. You weren't sure what was to become of the castle. Knowing how Alucard had some distain for the place now you had half expected him to want to leave it as it was.
You were forced to stop sweeping when Alucard appeared and grabbed the broom from you. "Let me help..." He said.
Alucard truly appreciated what you were trying to do for the place he once thought of as home. Seeing it in such a mess reminded him of what happened, cleaning it up would help him forget. Of course seeing your face would always remind him of what happened with his father but at least it came with good memories as well.
"It's an impressive library..." You said, breaking the silence. Your gaze wandered across the books along the walls, walking over after to pull one off the shelf.
"Yes my father was quite a collector." Alucard said.
"He must've been proud of his collection, though I suppose it's yours now..."
"Yes... I'm not sure what to do with this all sadly." Alucard explained. You frowned slightly and set the book back in its place. "Does staying here hurt you?" You asked, knowing it had been on your mind for awhile. Alucard stopped sweeping and nodded slightly, making your gaze turn sympathetic. You couldn't see his face since he had turned his back to you but you were sure he would of looked complexed by the question. Instead of speaking you decided to walk up and hug him from behind, making him tense slightly. He relaxed shortly after, setting his hand over one of your arms.
"Thank you {Y/n}... I'm glad I'm not alone..." He said.
You smiled ever so slightly then pulled away, going back to cleaning quietly. Alucard set his finger over one book on the shelf then walked down the bookcase once he set the broom down, dragging his finger along the way over the spines of each book. You watched him quietly, only paying him half your attention while the other half was focused on cleaning. Alucard stopped and focus on one book for a bit longer before tipping it towards him to then slide it out of its place. He dusted it off quickly then turned away from the shelf, his gaze wandering over the cover before he opened it. The book was old, it's pages stained yellow from the oxidation they suffered. He paused for a moment, his gaze fixated on the page. By now you had turned back, curious on what he was looking at.
"It is not your conversation
That keeps me entertained
But rather the way you look at me
That makes me feel sustained
It's the curve of your lips
And the curl of your hair
T'is all of the little things
That make me stop and stareIt is not your intelligence
That drew me close to you
It is not your sense of humour
That has thrown me all askew
It's the touch of your hand
And the thoughts in your head
T'is all of the little things
The things that don't get saidIt's not your vivid history
That's made me fall in love
It's not your comprehension
Of the world or what's above
It is your soft temperament
And the way you smile at me
T'is all of the little things
That make me want to seeIt's not when we are talking
That I want to know some more
It is not whilst you teach me
I learn what I'm looking for
It is the time we spend alone
And the time in utter silence
T'is all of the little things
That form a strong allianceIt's not the job you work so hard
That shows your true commitment
It's not your crazy habits
That give me great fulfilment
It is the way you use your hands
And the way I have been chosen
T'is all of the little things
Why I know silence is golden."Alucard read the poem from the book, his voice soft as he spoke each word. He let out a soft hum then closed the book again once he was done, a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips. He slid the book back into place, letting his hand rest on it for a moment longer before pulling away.
"That was beautiful." You said, seeing he was lost in thought.
"I suppose so, my mother told me it reminded her of father." Alucard explained.
"Did she ever explain why?"
"No, I never got to ask..." He trailed off.You shifted awkwardly from one side to the other then walked over to the shelf, pulling out the book again. You flipped through the pages until you found the poem again, dragging your finger across the ink.
"I think..." You started, taking a moment to scan the words again. During this, Alucard watched you intensely, curious to what was going on in your head. You looked up at Alucard after you put pieces together in your head, forced to crane your neck a little since you were so close and he was so tall. "Your mother looked past everything Dracula was on the surface and had fallen in love with everything else, she took the time to get to know him and found something incredibly special." You explained.
"I don't know if you're right or not but that's the meaning I'd like to think she implied." Alucard said.
You smiled slightly, to which he smiled back. After setting the book down you grabbed the broom again, sweeping the neatly piled glass shards into a small dustpan. When you left the room, Alucard followed you.
"What are we going to do with this place?" You asked.
"We?" Alucard repeated. You stopped then laughed slightly, turning to face him. "This is a joint venture Alucard, I'm here till the end now since I promised you wouldn't be alone." You explained. "Everything is 'we' now."
Alucard wasn't the best at showing his emotions, obviously. He tried his best, but he wasn't sure what to do now. Unable to think of what to say, he just leaned down to kiss you instead. When his lips touched yours you were surprised at first but relaxed shortly after. He laced his fingers with yours and rested his forehead on yours once the kiss was done.
"I'm going to build you a house." He said, as if it was nothing.
"Okay... Wait what?"
