"Egypt hurry up before you end up missing the bus! You know how them bus drivers get"

"I'm comin momma" I yelled back to her as I slipped on a pair of black vans, a pair of shoes given to me from my aunt Terri for back to school. These were the only pair of new shoes I could get right now so I decided to wear them on my first day

Once I was done I grabbed my bookbag and stood up off my twin sized bed, leaving out of the room that I shared with my 12 year old sister Neveah. The wooden floors of the tiny 3 bedroom home we lived in creaked as I walked on them, catching a glance of a family picture we took years ago that was hung on the wall.

The house I lived in was far from the best.. matter of fact I've actually seen a few people turn their noses up at the exterior of our house when they saw it. But although others didn't like it, it was home. I've grown up in this house over the past 8 years and although the floors creaked, the ceiling was peeling and the walls needed a fresh coat of paint, I loved it and the memories we created in what we could afford.

My momma became a single mom of four when our dad was killed in the crossfire of a shootout at a cookout when my momma was pregnant with my now 8 year old brother Sean jr. After my dad died he left her with debt, she then ended up losing the job she had because her recovery time after having Sean was extended due to her extremely high blood pressure, so now fast forward and she's working as a cook in a restaurant as well as a housekeeper in a hotel to make ends meet for not only her but me, Neveah, our 10 year old brother Evan and Sean.

"Egypt that bus should be coming soon!" She fussed again while I turned the corner and walked into the kitchen, tripping over a shoe

"Shit" I cursed and she must've heard me based off of the look on her face

"What?"

"My bad momma. Evan keep leaving his shoes all over the place" I picked it up and tossed it to the side. Evan, who sat at the table eating an off brand pop tart, turned around to look at me

"Them Sean shoes. I got mine on" he lifted up his left foot showing me his red and black Nike's

"And still. That don't give you a reason to curse in my house" momma scolded me while giving Sean the other pop tart the was in the pack. Sean smiled, showing off his silver teeth

"That's Whatchu get"

"Shut up and pick them damn shoes up. You ain got money to be messing up no brand new shoes cause if somebody step on 'em and mess 'em up what you wearing to school?"

Sean dropped his head a little, hating to get fussed at, and went to pick up the shoes. I wanted to make fun of him but I didn't feel like getting fussed at too

"I'm about to head to the bus stop"

"Alright. Here" she reached into the pocket of a pair of old sweats she had for years and pulled out a ten dollar bill "that's all I can give you right now. I'll see what I have left after I go catch up my car payment and pay my car insurance"
