Chapter 5 - The Master

End of Chapter 4 -

You exit the warehouse, each of you with the perception filters around your necks. You see someone walking directly towards you, so you move out of the way. They don't seem phased by your existence.

"Doctor?"

"Yes, Y/N?"

"Is this a normal day for you? I mean... do you do this everyday? All three of you?"

"Pretty much, but you'll fit in just fine. I think you're a real asset to our team!"

"You think?"

"I know you are."

You blush and look away from the Doctor, who is standing next to you and smiling your way. "Thanks." You say, looking up at him and giving him a small smile.

Martha and Jack are ahead of you and the Doctor, they were both laughing at something Jack had said. "-And that's why you shouldn't ever get into a fight with your pet Pterodactyl. Cheeky little bugger. Did you know, she once tried to attack me and Ianto when we were trying to save her? That's how I met him, through Myfanwy." Jack finishes the story, and looks over at Martha who is smiling at him, trying to stifle a laugh.

You and the Doctor follow them, occasionally laughing about how bad Jack's flirting is. "He's got no game, has he?" You say to the Doctor sarcastically, and he chuckles with you.

You all walk until you reach an airport. The Doctor is the first to move in, followed by Jack, Martha and then finally, yourself. You're nervous to say the least, as your former boss is stood ten feet in front of you alongside his wife. Were you really about to fight your boss? A van rolls up and three people are pulled out of the back of it, Martha's family; her mum, her dad and her sister Tish. Martha gasps and throws her hand over her mouth.

"I'm going to kill him." Martha says and starts moving towards Harold and his wife.

"What say I use this perception filter to walk up behind him and break his neck?" Jack taunts.

"Now that sounds like Torchwood." The Doctor replies, walking to grab Martha and hold her back. "Martha, we can't. Not yet." She crouches down and begins crying. Jack turns to face her, bending down and comforting her. He obviously cares deeply about her.

"Why aren't we attacking him?" You ask the Doctor, who looks at you and raises his eyebrow.

"He's the only other Time Lord, the only other one of my race alive. I can't attack or kill him. He's my responsibility." He explains calmly.

Harold and his wife welcome President Winters (The American President), and you all watch from the sidelines. You couldn't bring yourself to move and try to talk Harold out of hurting anyone. He was trying to scare the President, but in that moment, he scared you more. The Doctor senses that you were afraid of him, so he moves over to you and grabs your hand. "I know he's your boss, but he's one of my greatest enemies. You have to trust us, Y/N. We can bring him down, all four of us." He calmly speaks, and you look down. A tear rolls down your cheek as you nod.

"Okay." You sniffle, and wipe the tear away. Jack turns to you both, still holding Martha as she sobs. He grabs your hand and places it on the vortex manipulator, and the Doctor also holds on. He zaps it using his sonic screwdriver and you teleport onto the Valiant.

"Thought you said this was a ship? Where's the sea?" You ask.

"Ship for the 21st Century, protecting the skies of planet Earth. Welcome to the Valiant." Jack states.
