11th November 1942

It was a bright morning, Sarawat and Tine got off the car, the chauffeur started talking with a few sailors of the Berlin Maru, the ship that the two diplomats were about to go on board. They walked through the wooden corridor that led to the reception hall on D deck and and officer was waiting at the entrance of the ship

"Goodmorning sir, may I see your tickets?" he said in his perfect dark blue uniform

"Yes, here they are" Tine replied giving him the tickets he had in his hands

"Thank you sir, at the reception the steward will show you your cabin" the officer added and bowed, Tine and Sarawat entered so that the officer could check the other passengers.

The hall was incredible, there were a lot of people since it was the main entrance of the first class and there were waiters with glasses and champagne to welcome the guests. As they arrived at the reception they were soon reached by a young cute guy with a white jacket and dark trousers

"Goodmorning sir, I'm Kobayashi Yuki, you must be the diplomats of the embassy of Thailand" he said and both Tine and Sarawat nodded

"Please follow me" he added and started walking. They had a suite on the B deck so they went upstairs passing from the grand staircase and through a long white corridor, the steward opened the door of the B20 suite and bowed

"This is your cabin sir, we will bring your lugguages in a few minutes"

"Thank you" Sarawat said and the steward left.

"Goodmorning" the two maids saidas they noticed the two handsome guys who entered the suite.

"Oh, Goodmorning" Tine replied

"I'm Watanabe Mei and she's Takahashi Yui, we're your personal maids sir, you can call us whenever you want" one of the two young girls said. Sarawat and Tine nodded and went to the bedroom of the suite leaving the two maids in the living room.

Tine sat on his bed and started licking his lips in a pretty nervous way, Sarawat looked at him and immediately looked away since it was way too much to handle

"are... are you alright Tine?" Sarawat asked

"Umm... there's something that is driving me crazy since this morning..."

"Oh... what is it?"

"Well... can you come closer?" Sarawat did what Tine asked and looked at him confused, Tine looked focused on something that Sarawat was ignoring when suddenly Tine ran a finger on Sarawat's lips and licked it. Sarawat's eyes widened and waited for Tine to say something

"Do you use some sort of lip stick Sarawat?"

"Yes?..." he replied shyly

"Ummm... I probably used it... sorry I didn't mean to do so, I usually use lip sticks since my lips are so dry that they hurt sometime... I suppose that I used yours by mistake yesterday night before going to sleep" Tine said and Sarawat nodded but the Tine added

"Or maybe you kissed me while I was sleeping"

"Oh come on don't be silly" Sarawat said trying to hide his embarassement

"What? Don't you think that I'm attractive?" Sarawat surely knew the answer but e looked away

"Oh look, we have a private promenade deck too"  Sarawat said smiling awkwardly and Tine stopped teasing him. He stood up from the bed and reached the door, then he tunred back and asked

"I'm hungry... do you want to go eat something? There's surely a cafè or something like that"

"I have a few things to do, I'll wait for lunch"

"Ok, see you later" Tine said and left.

The ship was really big and it wasn't easy to find a cafe, so he looked for a steward or someone who could help him and as he found it he said

"Excuse me, is there a cafe?"

"Yes sir, please follow me" but suddenly he heard someone calling him, it was Fischer with his orderly, Karl Meyer, who was wearing his wehrmacht light grey uniform.

"Oh Guten Morgen Herr Fischer, how are you?"

"I'm fine thanks, we were going to the cafe parisien on the starboard side, do you want to join us?" the german officer asked

"yes, thank you" Tine replied and they all reached the cafe and ordered a few slices of cake and some tea.

In the meanwhile Sarawat took his coat and went upstairs, he reached the boat deck and started walking, he had a ring in his hands, it was a silver ring, it was pretty simple actually but it was surely a good message, he had one that was exactly like that and he had a plan, he just had to wait for the right moment.

While walking he noticed that Fukuda was sitting on one of the deck chairs and he was sobbing.

"Fukuda san?" he said putting the ring in his pocket carefully

"Oh... Sarawat... you're here too... I'm alright... nothing to worry about" Akio said and went downstairs. The air was pretty cold and Sarawat entered immediately as the whistles on the top of the funnels started emitting a terrible noise.

Sarawat took off his coat and went back to his cabin, he looked outside seeing the waves of ths ocean and the coast that was always more distant, the ship was finally leaving.

9 am, Fischer and Tine were still chatting and Sarawat went to the reading and writing room, he took a book and started reading.

he wasn't actually reading, he tried but he couldn't focus since he was thinking about the japanese employee of the ministry of war, why was he sobbing? What happened?

He knew that he couldn't just go and ask"Hey what's wrong?" so he tried to find even the smallest detail that could help him. Finally, the officer of the Thai embassy said that there was a message for him but what was it? Maybe Tine knew it or he could sned a telegram to the embassy as well. Time passed fast and it was 12am, it was time to get ready for lunch so he got back to his cabin and looked outside for one more time.

The coast was now too distant and he couldn't see it anymore but he knew that the following day the lights of another city, Osaka was the next stop.
