Tine went closer to Sarawat, he shook him trying to wake him up, Sarawat just moaned, after Tine saw the empty bottle on the ground he understood what was going on, he called the maids and asked them to help him, as they finally put Sarawat on his bed, Tine sat beside him and started caressing his head smiling.

When he was sure that Sarawat was asleep Tine stood up and closed the door of the bedroom leaving Sarawat alone. He went to the private promenade and sat down, it was already pretty dark and at first it felt a little strange, but then he remembered that the doctor said that they remained unconscious for almost 8 hours.

He took the Meyer's letter and even if he thought that maybe Karl didn't want him to read it he thought that now Meyer... simply wouldn't, or couldn't, care. So he started reading

"My dear Karl, do you remember..."

Berlin 10th August  1940

The orchestra was rehearsing, Franz was the conductor and Karl the first violin. They all stopped when the rumor of a special guest started spreading, Karl who was just 20 years old was pretty excited, Franz was much calmer even if he was only 2 years older than him.

"So? Do you want to continue chatting for the whole day? Come on, from the beginning!" Franz shouted. They started again but a few minutes a small group entered the concert hall, as they noticed the members of that group they all stopped and stood up, Franz turned back and left the stage to come closer to the group

"Heil mein Führer! It is a real honor for the orchestra of this conservatory to have you here today." Franz said confidently, Karl who was still at his place couldn't help but admire the confidence that Franz had in front of the most powerful man in the country... but actually...

"Oh, what a proud young man, you're the pride of your nation Franz von Eppenstein... please continue, I really like the Tannhäuser overture, I remember that I used to spend the little money I had back in Vienna just to watch an opera by Wagner... the greatest german composer of whole time..." the Führer said, Franz pretended to be interested but as he noticed that the important and hated guest finished he bowed and went back to the stage.

As the private concert finished, an officer came close to Franz and asked him if he wanted to join a party in the new Reich Chancellery, he looked at Karl for a moment and he said

"I'm flattered, however, do you believe that it is possible for the first violin to come too?" the officer nodded and Franz finally accepted

"WHAT?!" Karl shouted as Franz told him about the invitation, he couldn't believe that

"oh come on Karl, please, come with me! Do you think that you can refuse when the Fuhrer invites you?" Franz asked

"Why are you so excited Franz? I really don't get you, I thought you hated him... you and all your aristocratic friends..."  Karl replied

"Well... you're right, but since I know how much you wanted to visit the new Reich Chancellery, just think about how much you love architecture too, you will be able to talk to Albert Speer directly! Think about it!"

"I don't want to..." Karl replied

"KARL! I accepted just because I wanted to make you happy... I would just say that you're sick ... but I don't want you to waste such a great opportunity!" Franz added holding Karl's hands tightly

"Ok... Ok I accept... I'll come ... but only if you will be always beside me..." Karl replied looking away just to hide the fact that he was blushing

"Good"

It was 8pm when they arrived, the entrance of the Chancellery was so bright that it could almost make you blind, a man took their coats and a waiter asked them to follow him.

"You must be Franz von Eppenstein and Karl Meyer, unfortunately the Führer is busy because of a meeting with his generals, he hopes that you will enjoy this dinner even without him" an officer said

"Thank you very much" Franz replied. The whole place reminded him what his parents told him about the time when they spent days at the imperial palace, but the elegant aristocrats were now replaced by officers and ministers.  After a few hours he got bored and spent the rest of the time looking at Karl

"Where do you find all that energy Karl?" Franz thought, that guy was able to start a conversation with no matter who. As Franz noticed that a few people were leaving the party he thought that he could do it as well.

Franz went to the restroom, as he was about to leave he felt a pressure on his mouth and that someone was pushing him back to the toilet. He heard that someone locked the door and the pressure on his lips disappeard, he looked at the person in front of him

"Karl? What are you doing?"

"And you kissed me... Karl... do you remember that night? Here in Russia is getting pretty cold... but just the idea of you hugging me tightly... is enough to keep me warm. I love you..."

As he finished reading Tine sobbed like he never did before, he covered his eyes thinking about those two guy... and their fatal destiny.

I really don't think that it's necessary to say this but just to be careful, this isn't supposed to support nazi ideology or to hide the crimes that happened durning ww2, I'm just trying to recreate the feeling that a normal citizen could feel during that period.

Please tell me what you think about this chapter. Bye.
