Several hours of planning and strategizing later, the three of us finally felt as though we had a somewhat solid plan in order to right the whole body swap situation to get both myself and Rosie back to our normal lives. After having sat around for god knows how long, I had excused myself to go and stretch my legs, only to find that the sun was sinking slowly down behind the horizon in a comforting glow of oranges and yellows. I perched myself on a small wall that was still standing amongst all of the rubble that littered the back garden of the building, and tilted my head toward the sky to savour the cool breeze and to finally let everything properly sit in about my current situation and what the path ahead held for all of us.
Just as the sun was beginning to fully hide beneath the horizon, I was pulled out of my thoughts by a cool hand being placed on my bare shoulder. I tilted my head up to find Devon staring down at me with a soft smile on his face.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to disturb you, I just wanted to make sure that you are definitely okay and don't just feel like you have to agree to please all of us. It will affect you as well Faith." He commented as he motioned for me to move over so he could join me on the wall.
"No, it's alright, I mean Rosie is trapped in limbo somewhere, not dead but not alive either. Whereas I'm dead. I have nothing to lose anymore, but you guys have someone to lose and I will not stand in the way of her being lost forever." I replied as I shook my head and continued to stare at the sky, taking in the twinkling lights that lit up the sky from hundreds of other galaxies. I felt the raven-haired figure next to me turn themselves so they were now facing me instead of looking off into the distance in front of us.
"Faith, look at me," Devon spoke softly as he took my hand in his, causing me to tear my eyes away from the sparkling night sky to look him in the eye, "think about this properly first, please. I know you believe that because to your family and friends you are 'dead', you can go through with this, but you can't simply commit without taking the risks into proper consideration. If something went wrong, which it might well do, both you and Rosie will be lost forever, but if you don't go through with it, at least you can live with me and Naomi here."
"I can't do that though! That would be unbelievably selfish of me for taking away the one chance you two have to see Rosie again, just because I don't want to die and would rather live out my life here. I can't take Rosie's life from her, it simply isn't fair." I replied, fiddling with my fingers to distract myself from Devon.
"Rosie isn't the only one we need to think of though, especially seeing as you are the one alive and breathing at the minute," He tried to reason with me.
"But I'm not supposed to be alive and breathing Devon, I died in that car accident, my fate has already been decided." I stressed as I shuffled backwards on the wall to put some sort of distance between me and the raven-haired man in front of me.
"But what if your fate wasn't decided that night, what if your fate was to end up in this body, huh?" He tried to reason with me from a different angle, trying to twist my previous comment into some sort of reason to get me to side with him instead of the plan we had spent the entirety of the day deciding upon.
"Twisting my own thoughts against me won't work Devon! I was supposed to die not Rosie and this plan will-" I began only to be cut off by soft lips on my own. My eyes widened in shock before Devon pulled away just as quickly as he had kissed me.
"Uh, I'm so sorry Faith, it was a mistake, I didn't mean-" He began but it was my turn to cut him off. I hastily pushed myself off of the wall and to my feet whilst shaking my hands in front of me.
"No, you don't need to apologise I'm inhabiting the body, of, evidently your girlfriend, so it is understandable that you felt the urge to kiss me, her, but just so you are aware, this has made up my mind, we are going through with the plan so that you and Naomi and get your girlfriend and sister back." I confirmed as I took off back to the safety of the run-down building from which we had come, my fingers lightly touching my lips as my mind flitted back to the previous events that had just occurred. Why did I feel something after that kiss? It was a mistake and we both knew it. He simply mistook me for his flippin' girlfriend which is totally understandable considering I'm in his girlfriend's body! Either way, I need to forget about this weird feeling and focus on the mission ahead, returning Rosie and I to our own bodies.
