[A/N: In this AU they aren't in the carnival.]
This was bad. Really, really bad.
Kevin was knocked down by a bandit. His horse? Laying dead a few centimeters away from him. His leg was injured, and his pistol was out of bullets.
"Seems like it's the end of the road for ya, big guy." The bandit said, moving his knife closer to Kevin's throat. "Haven't fought someone like you in a while. You beefed all my men!"
"They were weak, their aim was bad..." Kevin said with a smirk. "Take my advice and train them first."
"You give me advice before you die?" The bandit mocked him. "And you expect me to listen?"
"Yup." Kevin said.
"Another advice." Another voice said from behind the bandit. Before the man turned around, a hand holding a glass bottle hit his head, and the bottle broke as the man passed out.
"Thanks." Kevin said as he looked at the man. He tried to get up, but his leg was too injured for him to even move it.
The man sat on the ground, getting a first aid kit out of his backpack. That's when Kevin took the chance to look at the man who was now tending his wounds.
His bright brown hair was messy, yet tidy enough to charm any lady. A scar went down his forehead to his left cheek, and his beard was shot curly.
"You are not from around here, aren't you?" Kevin asked him.
"How could you tell?" The man replied, still avoiding eye contact.
"The outfit." Kevin said. "Never met anyone from the area who's dressed like a fairy tale character."
"Thanks." He said.
"I'm Kevin." Kevin said.
"Kurt." The man replied. He then looked at the bandit, who was still unconscious.
"What are we going to do with him?" Kurt asked. "You can't really walk, and your horse is dead."
"So don't be an idiot." Kevin replied. "Leave me here and g-"
Before Kevin could finish the sentence, Kurt pulled him up and let him lean against him.
"Found an inn not so far away from here." Kurt said. "We should probably go there."
"We?" Kevin asked.
"To be honest, it looks like if you'd stay by yourself you'd get killed quickly." Kurt said as he started to carry the cowboy on his back. "Plus it would be nice to have an adventure buddy."
"Adventure buddy?" Kevin asked.
"I travel on my own most of the time," Kurt said. "It's nice and quiet, and I get to write down local tales I hear, but... at some point, it's getting lonely."
"It's not lonely if you have a horse." Kevin said.
"Sorry for your loss, I guess." Kurt said.
"That's okay. I can steal someone else's." Kevin said with a smirk.
"Or buy one?" Kurt asked.
"That depends, you have money for both a room in an inn and a horse?" Kevin asked. "Because I'm broke."
"Only for the room." Kurt replied. "Somehow it's very cheap."
"You think I'm the only poor guy here?" Kevin said. "Why do you think bandits always take money?"
"Because that's the whole point of being a bandit?" Kurt guessed, causing Kevin to chuckle.
"Kurt, pal, you have a lot to learn."
