mama bear welcomes you
arms are open wide
holds to you pandora's box
says "won't you look inside?"
a purse-sized cat
innocent and sweet
eyes of emerald
and fur like ink
bottles of pills
on the bathroom sink
she wants what's yours
don't dare blink
a five-year-old
made up like a queen
handed a scepter
and jewels that gleam
cradling in her hands
broken figurines
waving around the shards
as if they're acting out a scene
and then there's the angler
dangling a soft light
trying to convince you
of what is and isn't right
and you would do anything
to get him out your sight
but he revolves around you
like a blinking satellite
finally a puppy
neck adorned with a golden wreath
but what you do not see
is the wolf hidden beneath
because as soon as you take your sword
and put it in its sheath
and extend your arm to stroke it
is when it bares its teeth
she gazes down at her creatures
with affection in her eyes
"don't you just love them?"
she says, oblivious with pride
