'... your team are their fathers.'

When a full minute of stunned silence had passed, Erica spoke nervously,

'Kota? Are you boys still there?'

'Yea, Mom. That's just... we are their fathers?' Kota choked out and then pulled himself up,

'What am I saying, of course we are their fathers. What date were they born?' Kota knew he was babbling but his brothers all seemed frozen in shock still,

'21st September. I think Jeanie said they were 3 or 4 weeks early - which is completely normal in a multiples birth,' Erica rushed to reassure them,

'I think that's what she said anyway when she was talking about the birth after I saw the Christmas card. I can't remember exactly, I was a little... upset at the time,' Kota wasn't the only one nervous and babbling. Kota looked at Owen who seemed to be thinking now rather than just being stunned and in shock.

The babies would've been conceived in November last year then, not more than 4-5 weeks after Sang's eighteenth birthday when they'd first become sexually intimate,

'What did you mean our team are their fathers?' Owen asked hoarsely,

'Sang had a superfecundal pregnancy,' Erica explained,

'What does that mean?' North asked in frustration,

'It's a medical term for a pregnancy where babies born to a woman in a single pregnancy have multiple fathers. It's incredibly rare but in a poly family more than possible if the mother releases more than one ovum during the ovulation process,' The nine men looked at each other in shock,

'Do each of the babies have a different father then?' Nathan asked,

'In this case, we think so, yes. You have to realise that we only discovered this last night when I stopped for a quick Christmas drink with my two best friends, one of whom is a nurse in the maternity ward. She's the one who told me the mother of the septuplets wasn't Kayli Winchester but Sang Collins. Apparently that's the alias she had the babies under,'

That was the purpose of the word puzzle, the Blackbourne's realised. Iris was trying to help them find out the truth. Was Sang helping her? Coaching her? She had to be - only Sang knew, outside of the nine of them, how Vic would approach the internet to find intel they needed. That was very comforting. At least she did want them to know about their children even if she was with the Tomas now,

'Nia and Jeanie, you know Jeanie, Kota,' Kota muttered a positive response,

'Well they were Sang's favourite maternity nurses on the ward where she recuperated after she had the septs; she sent them a Christmas card with a... picture of her, the Tomas and the babies,' all nine Blackbourne's jumped in eagerly,

'Did you take a photo of the picture?' the perfect synchronicity was a bit creepy, but Erica just answered the question at face value,

'I did. I suppose you want me to forward it to you over the phone?'
