The Internship

The week went by fairly quick, and I was excited for my first day. I loved being introduced to new things and learning more about stuff. My nerves wouldn't let me sleep in, so I got up at 7am. I took a quick shower and co-washed my hair. I put some oil and leave-in on my hair then parted it on the side. Braiding it back giving myself two braids, then putting it into a bun. I didn't put any makeup on, because I rarely put on makeup. I put on some blue jeans and a black tank top. After a second of consideration, I decided to put on my cropped long sleeve shirt. Science labs normally are colder than average classrooms. The classrooms here are always cold. I put a notebook in my back as well as a folder and headed out to the lab. It wasn't too far, but I wanted to stop and get breakfast.

I went to the café and got a bagel with some blueberry tea. I ate and sipped on my tea the rest of the way to the lab. I entered the science building and went towards the location we were suppose to meet up at. I had already finished my bagel and just had a little tea left. I sat down at one of the benches. I was the first one to be here, it was 8:40am, I'm 20 minutes early. It was nearing 8:55 when I saw two more boys approaching my direction.

"You're here for entomology?" One of them said.

Although, I'm not sure, but I think he pronounced entomology wrong.

"Yep, my name is Rayvn." I said as I nodded my head.

"I'm Terrance, this is Joe." Joe gave a slight wave.

"Well nice to me you, Terrance, Joe." I saw a figure turn the corner.

To my surprise, but not really, it was the guy I was seeing last week with the eyes.

I stood when I saw him, the other two didn't notice him yet.

"Follow me." He simply said.

The two boys turned slightly startled, but I tried to keep up, they guy had to be over 6 feet. The closer we walked to wherever we were going, the colder it got. I was glad I did get my long sleeve, but it looked as if we were going to his office first. He opened a door, and it was a small conference room.

"You'll meet in here each morning, this is where I'll come and collect you." He spoke and took a seat at the head of the table.

I sat down not next to him, but a chair away, the other two sat further.

"It would be better if you two got closer." Dr. Emory said.

With a slight huff, they got closer but still keeping a distance, so he began to speak.

"I'm Dr. Asa Emory, head of the entomology department here..." He explained what it is we'll be doing this summer.

He mentioned how he'll talk to us individually on certain task. We then got up and followed him to the lab, which he needed a key and passcode for. Only to be met with another set of doors.

"Here is where you'll leave all your belongings and put on your lab equipment that I discussed." He said.

I took my bookbag off and hanged it on the hook next to my lab coat. The university got us custom made lab jackets with our names on them.

Entomology Intern

I slipped my coat on, put on the shoe covers, then I grabbed the goggles and put them on my head. I didn't cover my eyes with them. I grabbed a pair of gloves put they dwarfed my hands.

"Dr. Emory, you wouldn't happen to have smaller gloves would you?" I lifted my hands so show the big gloves.

"I may have a box of smaller gloves in my office." He said before he left out.
