"So? You have fun?" Colby asked as we pulled into our neighborhood.

"I did, actually. I love Amber," I said.

"Me too," he replied.

"Are you guys, like...," I trailed off.

"Me and Amber? God no," he laughed. "We're just friends. Why?"

"Just wondering," I said. Jesus, could I be any more obvious? We pulled up to my house and into the driveway.

"What's the code again?" he asked.

"06052001," I said. "My birthday."

"You know, that's only in a couple weeks," he said.

"I guess it is," I replied.

"We'll have to do something crazy," he said.

"I'm down," I laughed. We drove up to my house and I saw a car in the driveway.

"Hey, is that—,"

"Jess' car!" I exclaimed. I didn't wait for Colby to park, just hopped out of the moving car and sprinted up the stairs to my house. I burst inside.

"Jess? Are you here?" I called out.

"Kitchen," she responded. I kicked off my shoes and sprinted into the kitchen to see two people sitting on the counter.

"Oh my god," I whispered.

"Hey, bestie," Krystal said.

"What are you doing here?" I asked, running over to give her a hug.

"Jess said you needed some help," she replied.

"How did you get her here?" I asked Jess.

"I drove to Washington. Notice how I've been gone for four days?" she asked.

"Well no shit I've noticed. Notice how you haven't been answering any of my calls or texts?" I answered.

"That was my idea. We wanted to surprise you," said Krystal.

"How are you here? Don't you have work?" I asked.

"Babe, if you need help, I'll take off as many days as I need to. Your life is more important than any job," she replied. "And if Nintendo can't understand that, I can find a new job."

"I still think it's so fucking cool you work for Nintendo," said Jess.

"It's pretty sick," Krystal said.

"Rose? You in here?" Colby asked as we heard the front door open and close.

"We're in the kitchen!" I called out. Colby walked into the kitchen.

"Hey there Jess. You just about sent Rose over the deep end by ignoring her, you know," said Colby.

"Damn bro, he is hotter in person," said Krystal.

"Jess!" I whined.

"What? Am I wrong?" she asked.

"I'm sorry, who are you?" Colby asked.
