STANDING IN THE CENTER of a gigantic sports arena was nerve racking to say the least, and it didn't really help that Hagakure was cutting off my arm's circulation, clutching on for dear life. Following directions given out by the teacher overseeing, we line up based on class assignment.Sooner than anticipated the ceremony began, with the rated R hero "Midnight" calling the freshman representative to the stage. Surprising nearly everyone, Bakugo separated from the line and moved towards the microphone.
After his "words of encouragement", the first race started in a packed hallway, the challenge being to make it out alive without suffocating.
It was clear immediately to the intentions of this obstacle... who can make it without being eliminated.
Quickly and effortlessly Todoroki pulled in-front, taking the lead by force. Class 1-A soon follow closely behind, what can I say? We have experience.
Even after we blew past all of the general and support students, "half/half's" ice was still blocking us at every passage. Though it was beautifully cascading down the obstacles in the heat, the chunks were impossible to avoid. Thankfully, being a pyro kinetic had its perks.
Soon our hardships passed as class 1-a neared the finish line, Deku undoubtedly in the lead, with Todoroki following in a close second. Bakugo and myself were neck and neck for 3rd, eventually he pulled forward for the victory.
In a tried heap, I pull to the side of the arena, oblivious to the howling fans and tv crews at every corner.
Somewhere else...
He felt his skin on his neck begin to bleed and peel as he continued to scratch away, if he had to be honest it was his vice. An addictive pleasure that relieved his crushing anxiety, not that he would admit it to anyone.
Especially now watching the large television in the bar, brain storming kidnappings ideas and targets. Subconsciously he panicked that her name would arise, that she would be the target and he would have to force her to join them.
He didn't like the idea.
Tomura saw (y/n) as an angel of sorts, someone who was a product of light, someone who could never be like him... someone who should never have to be like him.
It tore him from within, the duties of leadership and his unspoken relationship with (y/n).
His gaze was drawn to the television at once as the secondary trail began.
There she was, riding along with other students taking bandannas, with a laugh and a smile. He knew he couldn't take that from her, despite the fact he did want to see her more often.
"I think we should take the boy with the white and red hair!"
"I believe that Midoriya Izuku is the best candidate for the potential of being a target"
"I don't care, but that girl with the long back hair looks delicious..."
"Don't say that! She's half you age!"
"Everyone quite"
All eyes turned to Tomura who sat as if he had cinder blocks upon his shoulders.
"We need someone who is already alienated, someone who doesn't fit the bill for being a hero... someone like him"
On the flat screen showed a blonde boy with spikes of hair, quite similar to a Pomeranian. He yelled and kicked at his fellow classmates, talking down to them with an evil grin.
"He's the one"
Back to the arena...
Soon the second challenge ended with bang, leading many spectators to lean forward in disbelief. Several students stepped forward to forfeit their spots, this had never happened before in U.A.'s history.
Now with the dwindling numbers, the stakes were high with the remaining students.
In the locker room it was clear things were going to have a rocky start, especially when the personal grudges became involved.
"Midoriya I am challenging you, I won't lose to you. This time. I will win, you as well Bakugo, consider this a warning."
Suddenly, a screeching silence swept the room. Todoroki, Izuku and Bakugo were in a stare off, no one was clear of who the supposed "winner" would be.
Sooner rather than later the third and final portion of the sports event took place, the one on one matches. These matches are where all the choices regarding future internships take place, it's essential to get as far as possible to prove your worth.
(Y/N) felt a chill run down her spine, she knew her match was fast approaching. Izuku quickly finished up with the mind reader/controller and Denki quickly and unexpectedly lost his match to the Vine user in class 1-B.
People were dropping like flies, she could only hope that her wits and talent carry her across the finish line because, training and studying surly wouldn't.
"Would the next contests please come forward, Mina Ashdod and (Y/N) (L/N)."
Anticipation seeped within every pore of her body, for once her mind wasn't focused on Tomura.
Slicking her hair back, with the exception of a few hanging strands, she trained her focus on her approaching opponent. The announcer with a loud start declared the much anticipated statement of "begin", and with a burst of unexpected strength the pink haired girl shot forward, not unlike a rocket or ballistic missile.
Mina moved swiftly with intent, eyes set on the goal at hand... taking down (Y/N). It was almost as if her body language read "don't take this personal". (Y/N) was hot on toes, quickly evading and positioning for the attack.
Come on (y/n)! float like a butterfly and sting like a bee!*
Taking those words to heart, (Y/N) posted up and lunged with vigor and raw strength. Flames of white and blue filled the stage, by unintended extension burning her uniform to cinders.
Her eyes reflecting the heat of her raging fire, her muscles enveloped in a type of strength in only found in quirks.
Mina's quick action of eluding the fire with her acid was a complete and utter failure. Her white toxic residue only seems to catch fire and dissipate in the presence of heat.
As soon as the match began, it came to an end. Mina was cornered with no options and little room to escape, yet it was clear to (Y/N) she was hopeful until her final moment in the ring. Only when (Y/N) landed the final strike, did Mina fully understand her situation. (Y/N) hoped Mina's soon to be bruised eye would motivate her into practicing more instead of running off to dance, as per usual.
(Y/N) didn't think of it as hypocritical but rather, seeing potential heros slack and run to the easiest option made her sick. She considered that her opinions were starting to become clouded but, she dismissed that just as quickly. She was her own person, her views just happen to line up with some of Tomura's. He has no part in her thoughts, that's what she told herself anyways.
Soon she departed the arena, her thoughts escaped her as she moved to the student arranged seating. Things were lined up to be quite interesting, Bakugo vs. Uraraka. This would be a sight to see.
