Chapter 9

Nick's POV

It's been a year since everything had happened. Shannon has turned 22 and I turned 24. The rumors calmed down and soon were forgotten. Desiree left and moved back to Arizona. Joe sold his apartment and moved in with me. Kevin, Danielle and Alena moved to New Jersey to be closer to Dani's family. Yet, here I am still in L.A. hoping for my girl to return. We talked a couple of times on the phone to discuss her cats. She said I could watch them until she found a place to live. She also told me about her new boyfriend, Ryan. He seemed like a nice guy. That hopefully I could trust taking care of her. I went out a few times, but nothing lasted more than 2 months. I couldn't get her off my mind. After 12 years, I still couldn't get it right.

Flashback Seven Years Ago

As I was about to go onstage with my brothers. Someone small has latched themselves onto my back. I threw them around until I was holding them in front of myself. Shannon's eyes met mine as hers sparkled.

"Break a leg out there," she said playing with a piece of my curly hair.

"Don't worry, I won't forget." She smiled as I jogged on stage to meet my brothers.

After the show, we all went to our hotel to play video games. We played until nearly 2 in the morning. While I yawned and rubbed my eyes. I took a look at my phone. Their were 20 text messages asking where I was and what I'm doing. Crap, I forgot her birthday. I woke up Kevin to ask him if he could drive me to her house.

Once I got there, I placed the ladder beside her window and climbed up. The window was open so I stepped through. I kneeled down next to her bed and kissed her forehead. She woke up surprised to see me.

"What the hell are you doing here? It's 2:30 in the morning." She whispered.

"I came to wish you a happy birthday." She shook her head.

"Don't, it's already too late. Go back to your hotel. I don't want to see you right now." She turned her body facing away from me. I scooted her over then climbed in.
"Hey, what are you doing? My parents are asleep now get out."

"Not until I give you your present," I said rubbing her arm. She rolled her eyes and looked at me. I handed her a long dark blue little box. She opened it up and there laid a custom made golden necklace that said, "Shay." Her eyes soon fell with tears as she held it close.

"It's beautiful Nick, it really is. But, I don't think I'm ready for this relationship. I'm so sorry, but I'm breaking up with you." My heart just shattered into a million of pieces. I could see the pieces flying and getting lost somewhere. I bent my head down and got out of her bed. She grabbed my arm but I didn't turn around.

"Thank you for this beautiful necklace. I'll cherish it forever." With that said I headed back to my hotel by myself.
