Y/N looked over at Jacob, he was fast asleep on his bed. They'd been watching a movie together, well, she'd been watching a movie. Jacob had been on his phone for the entire time. He was asleep, surprisingly, seeing as it was only eight in the evening. Normally he'd stay awake all night calling out poor people on Twitter and it only made Y/N wonder what her best friend would think of her if he ever found out what her home life was like. Maybe he'd hate her and think she was just scum, who was living off of his grandfather's earnings. Or maybe he'd be sympathetic, but she doubted that for some reason or another.
She sighed softly and figured she should finish her school work for that week. Then she wouldn't have to worry about it the next day and she could just relax and enjoy herself. Even though Jacob could be an asshole, there were moments where he thought he was kind of cute. Like then, when he was sleeping. He looked so innocent and peaceful- of course it was because he wasn't talking and telling her his opinions on minorities.
She looked through her school book and went through all of the work she'd done over the past few months, since she'd started at the new school. She still didn't know who had payed her tuition...
She found a piece of work she'd only half-attempted, it was an essay about Hamlet and some metaphor that the whole story was based on. She did that piece of work a week after she'd joined the school, they day she'd spoken to Jacob Thrombey for the second time.
After being at the school for a few days, the teachers immediately recognised that she needed to be in a higher class for English- because apparently she was pretty good at it. So she got moved to the class above the one she was put in to begin with. She walked in and smiled at the teacher who directed her to somewhere to sit. It was near the back of the room, next to a boy that she recognised from the week before.
She didn't know what his name was at the time, but she would soon learn his name along with most other things that there were about him. She sighed softly and walked over to him, sitting down and trying to ignore him and simply just look ahead and follow along the lesson. But obviously Jacob wasn't having that. She went to sit down and as she did, Jacob spoke. The new girl had managed to get him to look up from his phone screen, long enough to receive a mean comment.
"Your skirt is still too short, I can almost see your ass." He told her as she sat down next to him and got her textbook out, she scoffed a little and scowled at him.
"Well here's an idea. How's about you stop looking?" She retorted as she opened up her textbook and got out her pen from her bag.
"Hard to stop." He grinned and smirked a little, looking her up and down before looking back at his phone screen. She wondered how he was getting away with being on his phone in class but later she'd figure out that the teachers were probably used to him staring at his phone screen continuously.
"Asshole." She shook her head and looked down at her textbook and throughout that lesson, she often felt his eyes on her. She left the class as soon as the lesson was over, just wanting to get away from him. "Okay, English is now my least favourite class." She decided and walked off to her next class.
The next English lesson she went to, Jacob was obviously trying a little harder in making some decent conversation with her. Well, after she ignored his first remark. "I see you've adjusted the length of your skirt." He joked and then dropped his smile as he received a death glare from Y/N. Okay, that wasn't the best way to make a friend. "Uh- so who are you voting for in the election?" He asked.
Y/N shrugged and looked at him, she figured she might as well try to talk to this guy- after all, she didn't really have anyone else to talk to. "I don't really know much about politics. And aren't we too young to vote?"
"Well yeah, but you can still promote people on social media. Who are you rooting for?" He asked, adjusting his question a little.
"Nobody." She shrugged and shook her head a little as she looked back down at her work, taking a couple of notes from the board. After a few moments she sighed and looked back at Jacob, figuring she could make an effort. "Who are you voting for?"
"Conservatives. Obviously." Jacob told her and grinned a little. Y/N had nothing to say back to that, she really did know nothing about politics but she would later learn a lot- being friends with Jacob came hand in hand with learning an excessive amount about politics.
"Cool, I think?" She responded and gave him a small smile before looking back at the teacher at the front of the classroom.
After that, she'd been running into Jacob everywhere. It was if he was just trying to find ways to bump into her in the hallway and stop to chat for a couple of minutes in between lessons. And then, one day, they'd even sat together at lunch- she was surprised that he wasn't staring at his phone the entire time. He had it in his hand while he held an apple in the other.
"So what do your parents do?" He asked, catching her off-guard, she looked back at him and squinted. "I mean, everyone in this place has rich parents. Some are actors, doctors, politicians... I think mine are the lamest in this place- that's why nobody talks to me."
Y/N was certain it had more to do with him just saying mean and outdated things, but she was intrigued, "What do your parents do?" She asked him.
"My dad publishes books that my grandpa writes." He said with a laugh and took a bite out of his apple, "What about yours?"
And then that was the moment where the lying began and she had no idea when it would come to an end. She paused for a moment before responding.
"They own a fashion company."
