"Clever as the devil
and twice
as pretty"

Clarissa sat patiently at the long table in the Great Hall, waiting for the feast to begin. Her eyes scanned the room, taking in the other students who had arrived for the start of term. She had been warned by her father about the importance of making connections with the pureblooded families, and she was determined to make the most of her time at Hogwarts.

As she looked around, her attention was drawn to a girl sitting nearby. She was introduced as Pansy Parkinson, and Clarissa couldn't help but think that she resembled a pug. She bit her tongue to stop herself from saying anything, knowing that it could ruin her family's reputation and lose them valuable supporters.

Clarissa had been taught from a young age which pureblood families were worth befriending, and which to avoid. The Notts, Blacks, Malfoys, Zabinis, and Greengrasses were among the families deemed acceptable, while the Parkinsons, Bulstrodes, and Davises were to be avoided due to their family background and history with the Whites. The reasons for the feud between the Parkinsons and Whites were murky, with some claiming betrayal and others pointing to the Whites' association with You Know Who. Clarissa had formed her own opinion of the Parkinsons, however, believing them to be snobbish and lacking in manners.

Thankfully, her next encounter was much more pleasant. She met Daphne Greengrass, who was both pretty and well-mannered. Clarissa felt an instant connection with her, knowing that they would become best friends. As they chatted, Clarissa learned that Daphne had a younger sister, Astoria, who would be starting at Hogwarts in two years.

As the students waited for the feast to begin, Professor McGonagall stood and tapped her goblet for attention. "You're attention, please," she called out, before Dumbledore stood up and officially began the feast.

Clarissa was disgusted by the way some of her fellow Slytherins were eating, particularly Crabbe and Goyle, who were eating like animals. Even Draco Malfoy's obsession with his hair gel and green apples seemed strange to her, but she knew better than to comment.

Despite her own strict diet, Clarissa couldn't help but feel envious of the other students who were enjoying the feast. Her mother had put her on a strict diet to ensure she would grow up to be an elegant and high society lady, but Clarissa thought it was ridiculous. She knew better than to argue with her mother, however, as Isabella could be terrifying when angry.

As the feast came to an end, the Slytherin students were instructed to follow the prefects to the common room. Located in the dungeons of Hogwarts, the common room was accessed via the password 'Pure-Blood'. The room was filled with dark green and black furniture, and the mantle was decorated with a picture of a serpent, representing the Slytherins.

Clarissa settled into the common room, feeling relieved to be surrounded by fellow purebloods. She knew that the Gryffindors were known for accepting blood traitors, half-bloods, and even muggles. She couldn't help but notice the likes of Ron Weasley, Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, Neville Longbottom, and Albus Dumbledore among their ranks. Despite her disdain for those not of pureblood, Clarissa dared not disrespect Dumbledore, as he was one of the most respected and powerful wizards to have ever lived.

The prefects wasted no time in showing them around, pointing out the various common areas and explaining the rules.

"Boys aren't allowed in the girls' dormitory, but girls are allowed in the boys' dorms," the prefects stated, their voices echoing through the room. "Students must be in bed at 10 pm, and Slytherins must stick together and look out for their own. Anyone who dares to break the rules will be punished heavily."

Clarissa couldn't help but feel a sense of unease as she listened to the rules. She had heard stories of students who had broken the rules and suffered severe consequences. She didn't want to be one of them.

As the prefects finished their tour, Clarissa made her way to her dormitory, where she was greeted by her new roommates. Daphne Greengrass, Millicent Bulstrode, Tracey Davis, and... Pansy Parkinson. Clarissa's heart sank at the sight of the last name. She had heard about the Parkinson family and their views on blood purity, and she didn't want to be associated with them.

To make matters worse, two of her roommates were half-bloods, with blood traitors in their family. Clarissa couldn't believe her luck. She had hoped for a room full of pure-bloods like herself, but it seemed she was stuck with these outsiders.

Pansy, in particular, grated on Clarissa's nerves. The girl never seemed to stop talking, and her gossip was always laced with lies and rumors that made no sense. Clarissa's father had warned her to stay away from the Parkinsons, but now she was stuck sharing a room with one.

Clarissa sighed, knowing she had no choice but to make the best of the situation. She would have to find a way to tolerate her roommates, even if it meant keeping her distance from Pansy and her toxic gossip.

As bedtime drew near, Clarissa dressed in her evening gown and sat down to write a letter to her parents. Which she had promised them that she would write to them as soon as she arrived at Hogwarts.

"Dear Mother and Father," she began. "I hope this letter finds you both in good health. I have settled in nicely and am pleased to report that I was sorted into Slytherin, just as you both predicted. The sorting hat nearly placed me in Gryffindor due to my bravery, which I inherited from you, Mother. However, the house recognized my cunning and ambition, traits that I share with you, Father. I'm not surprised by the outcome; you both taught me well."

She continued to describe her new acquaintances. "I'm still friends with Draco, Theodore, Blaise, Vincent, and Goyle. But I've also made new friends, like Daphne Greengrass, a pureblood who is part of the esteemed Greengrass family. She's quite delightful and cheerful, despite being a Slytherin. I've also encountered some rather interesting individuals. For instance, there's Pansy Parkinson. I can't say I care for her much. Her voice is grating and she looks like...well, to be frank, she resembles a pug. Forgive my language, Mother, but it's the truth. She's every bit as terrible as you and Father warned me."

Clarissa shared her displeasure with her roommates. "My roommates are Daphne Greengrass, Pansy Parkinson, Millicent Bulstrode, and Tracey Davis. I was mortified to discover that I had to share a room with those two blood traitors and Parkinson. At least I have Daphne to keep me company. It's surprising that Parkinson is friends with those two, but I suppose she needs someone to bolster her clique, despite her family's supposed commitment to blood purity. It seems hypocritical to me."

After sealing the letter and attaching it to Frost, the barn owl that her parents had given her for this purpose, Clarissa lay in bed and watched as the bird flew into the night sky, headed towards her parents' estate. Some students gave her curious looks because Frost was not a snowy owl, but a brown and cream-colored barn owl. Nevertheless, Clarissa had always liked the name Frost, and she didn't care what others thought.

As she was settling in, she overheard Pansy and the half-bloods whispering. Clarissa wondered what they were gossiping about, but decided that it was none of her concern. She knew that once you got mixed up with the Parkinson family, there was no going back. Clarissa closed her eyes. Clarissa felt a sense of satisfaction at the connections she had made. She knew that her time at Hogwarts would be crucial for her future, and she was determined to make the most of it.
