When Y/N awoke, she opened her eyes to see North glaring at her.
She yelped and rolled away, off of the futon as the country also jumped back.
"W-Why were you glaring at me?" she asked, wrapping herself in the blanket that had come with her.
"I wasn't," North muttered, glancing away from her. His red stripe darkened slightly.
'W-Was he... watching me sleep?' Y/N wondered. 'If so, he needs to be alot less threatening about it.'
"Come on," North grumbled. "Go get ready. The Foundation Festival is today."
"Y-Yeah," Y/N said, disentangling herself from the futon cover. "Right."
They stood next to each other awkwardly. North was glaring at her again, and she shifted nervously.
'I-Is he going to kill me?' Y/N worried.
"W-Well..." She started for the door. "I'm going to... I'm going to go."
North growled. "Wait." He marched over to her angrily.
"W-What?" Y/N stuttered, raising her hands. 'He is going to kill me?!'
But the Countryhuman just turned her face to him and aggressively kissed her on the cheek, before letting her go.
Y/N blushed fiercely. "N-North-"
"Get out." He pointed at the door, not looking at her.
Y/N smiled and darted out the door. She struggled to keep her face neutral as she walked between her guards. But as soon as she was in her room, she buried her face in her pillow and squealed in excitement.
She felt... giddy. The last time she had felt this way had been at sixteen. But this time was different- she could feel it. North was different.
Y/N waffled over her clothes for once, unsure of what to wear, before scolding herself.
'It's not like he likes me for my fashion sense.' She'd probably be changing into a choson-ot later, anyways.
North was heading for the dining hall at the same time as her. "Y/N," he said, as they crossed the lobby. "Don't tell my provinces about..." He waved his hand at her.
Y/N wanted to be offended, but she got it. He had a reputation to uphold. "I won't." She really didn't know what she'd even say, anyways. 'Oh, hey, by the way, I'm in a relationship with your country now.'
But their secret didn't stay secret for long.
When they walked into the dining hall, SH and Hae sprang apart, looking guilty.
"Good morning!" SH said, a little too brightly. "North Pyongan made coffee."
"Coffee?" North raised his brow at the sailor province. "What's the occasion?"
"South Hamgyong made me," he said, sipping from his cup. "I don't believe rumours."
"Rumours?" North narrowed his eye at SH, who squirmed.
"Um-"
"No rumours here!" Hae chirped. "Absolutely no rumours about-"
Kangwon gently clasped a hand over her mouth from behind. "Don't listen to her." He smiled. "She has nothing to say. Did you just lick my hand?"
