The Divinity of Duality - d.m.

Year 1 Part 3

It was the first quiditch match of the season and the whole school was buzzing with excitement. Blaise gave me a Slytherin scarf and I followed my friends to the Slytherin stand where we spotted Draco, Crabbe and Goyle already cheering loudly.

"That scarf suites you Millie." Draco smirked. I rolled my eyes and stood in between Blaise and Daphne trying my best to stay away from Pansy. Even though we'd grown up together we never liked each other. She was stuck up and spoilt, not someone i enjoyed being around. I watched carefully as the quaffle was thrown into the air and caught by a Gryffindor chaser, the position I hoped to play in the next year or so. The chaser gracefully dodged a bludger and threw the quaffle through the centre hoop scoring 10 points for Gryffindor. The whole of the Slytherin stand let out an angry roar. Slytherins hated losing but especially to Gryffindors.

The score was 20:20 when Harry Potter's (Gryffindors new seeker) broom started to thrash around in what seemed like an attempt to through him off. My friends laughed at this.

"Serves him right." Blaise said.

"Yeah when has a first year ever played on a quidditch team." Daphne said nodding her head.

"Well he's the boy who lived of course everything is handed to him on a silver platter." Draco said bitterly but his expression changed once Potter was hanging onto the broom with one hand. I nudged Draco.

"Play nice Malfoy." I warned. 

"Look Millie, the stupid git is neck and neck with our seeker anyway." Draco huffed in frustration. I looked back at the game and saw that Potter was barging the Slytherin seeker as they both reached out for the golden snitch. They both went plummeting towards the ground reaching out for the snitch. Potter came tumbling off his broom looking as though he was going to throw up and out of his mouth came the golden snitch. With that the boy who lived had won the game for Gryffindor. Draco put his head in his hands whilst Crabbe and Goyle booed. The whole of Gryffindor roared and Potter had a wide smile plastered across his face.

I walked back to the common room on my own and as I got to the door the eagle looked at me carefully "Only one colour, but not one size, stuck at the bottom, yet easily flies, present in sun, but not in rain, doing no harm, and feeling no pain." The eagle said. At first I was beyond confused but then I thought back to what Cho said on my first day, the eagle may ask a riddle. I thought for a moment then it came to me.

"A shadow!" I said proudly. The eagle looked at me shocked.

"But no first years ever get the riddle?!" It stammered.

"Can I go inside now?" I said in boredom. The door swung open and I spotted Michael sneaking into a door then tentatively closing it behind him. I followed him and snuck into the room after him. As I stepped in the door disappeared behind me. Michael was standing in front of the most beautiful mural I've ever seen delicately painting on the wall. "Wow! Michael, this is amazing." He jumped at the sound of my voice. 

"You scared me." He laughed, shaking his head. 

"How are you painting with no paint?" I asked curiously as I noticed he was only holding a paint brush with no paint in sight.

"Enchanted paint brush. Cho made some for us when we found this room and started these murals." 

"Cho can paint like this as well?" I asked in surprise.

"Yeah," He laughed, "wanna try?"

"Sure." I said nervously picking up a paint brush. As soon as the brush touched the wall it was the exact shade of green I was thinking of. I painted for a while then when I was done I tapped Anthony on the shoulder to look.

"Wow, what kind of flower is that?" He gasped.

"It's Hogsweed, my mother told me about it and it just reminds me of Hogwarts I guess." 

"It's very beautiful." Michael said smiling at me.
