Blaise and I hopped onto the train and I followed him into the Slytherin carriage. I hugged Daphne tightly and whilst she complained about me not writing. I nodded at Crabbe and Goyle but ignored Pansy. I wrapped my arms around Draco happily and he wrapped his around my waist. I sat with them for a while but remembered I hadn't see my Ravenclaw friends in ages, I did miss them terribly.
"I'm going to go guys but I'll see you at school." I told them.
"No Millie, stay." Draco sort of pleaded. I hugged him again.
"I'll see you soon." I whispered in his ear. I walked out of the compartment shutting the doors behind me as I walked over to The Ravenclaw carriage. I spotted Cho, Anthony, Terry and Michael all sitting in a compartment and I happily skipped inside.
"Ah the famous Milly. Too good to write to her friends?" Michael joked looking up from a sketchbook.
"Sorry guys, eventful summer." I said sitting next to Cho by the window.
"What's wrong?" Cho whispered in my ear as we hugged.
"I'll tell you later." I said back, she nodded.
"Did you at least get around to reading to kill a mocking bird?" Terry asked.
"I did actually, slow build but worth it." I replied smiling.
"Lord of the flies is our next one." Terry said chucking me a book. "Tell your friend Granger if you want."
"Not a chance." I murmured sourly.
After diner in the great hall us Ravenclaws went up to our common room to begin unpacking. Luna hadn't arrived yet so I began to tell Choo about what I had overheard that summer. Cho had a look of horror on her face and when i finished talking it seemed as though she didn't know quite what to say.
"You watched your dad die? How did I not know this?" Cho asked.
"Yes, because it's a truly delightful tale to tell." I said bitterly. I got into bed and pulled out my book trying to push away the memory.
The next morning we had herbology. I walked in with Luna and stood next to her at the back of the classroom across from Draco. I smiled weakly at him and he gave me a concerned look that I ignored. Everyone was talking happily about their summers when Professor Sprout walked in.
"Morning everyone," She said but couldn't be heard over the chatter. "good morning everyone." She said loudly.
"GOOD MORNING PROFESSOR SPROUT." The whole class said in unison.
"Welcome to green house 3 second years. Now come around everyone. Today we are going to repot mandrakes. Can anyone tell me the properties of the mandrake. Yes Miss Granger." Sprout said point at the know-it-all. She began to over share her knowledge per usual. I was barley listening so when everyone began to put on earmuffs and grab a mandrake I tried my best to mimic their actions. Neville Longbottom had fainted from the cry of the mandrake and a good looking Gryffindor boy I had never noticed told Sprout in a cute Irish accent what had happened to Neville. Everyone pulled their mandrake out of the pot to quickly replant it. Whereas Draco, with poking it. The plant bit down on his finger making him wince whilst trying to pull it out. This made me giggle and Draco scowl at me. I look over at the cute Gryffindor boy as i noticed him eyeing me up and down. I made eye contact and smirked at him. I walked out of class with Luna but turned around as I felt a tap on my shoulder.
"Hey I'm Seamus." The Gryffindor said in his accent that made my stomach flutter.
"Millie." I said shaking his hand.
"I'll see you around Millie." he said winking at me. I felt an arm go around my shoulder and looked up to see Draco.
"Piss off would you Seamus, Millie is of a higher class of witch." Draco said glaring at Seamus. I shot Seamus an apologetic look, shook off Draco's arm and tried to walk off with Luna. "What's wrong Millie? You've been acting weird since summer." Draco said following us.
"I'm fine Malfoy. I can handle myself." I said coldly.
"Fine." Draco said in frustration and stalked off with Crabbe and Goyle.
At lunch that day I sat quietly at the Ravenclaw table and turned to see and owl flying down crazily to the Gryffindor table and crashing into a blow of crisps. I noticed Draco and Blaise laugh at Ron as he took a letter from the owl.
"Look everyone, Weasley's got himself a howler." Seamus laughed. My stomach fluttered at his cheeky grin. A look of terror consumed Ron's face. This made Draco and Blaise laugh even harder. Ron tentatively peeled away the seal of the envelope. As soon as the letter was opened it began to scream at Ron. This made Draco and Blaise howl with laughter.
Luna and I walked into defence against the dark arts. I think Luna knew something was up with me as I had barley spoken all day. I looked around the class and noticed Seamus had an empty seat next to him. I smirked and sat myself next to him. I caught him staring at me from the corner of my eye.
"Let me introduce you to your new defence against the dark arts teacher." Lockheart began as he strolled into the room from a balcony. Of course that's how he enters a room looking down on the rest of us. I noticed Hermione swoon and rolled my eyes.
"Not a fan of Lockheart?" Seamus whispered in my ear.
"I'd rather die." I said sarcastically. This made Seamus laugh and shake his head.
"First witch I've ever met to have that reaction. One of a kind you are." He said grinning. Lockheart went on and on about his achievements whilst looking smugly and a massive portrait of him drawing himself on the wall. Seamus whispered a joke in my ear and i giggled softly hitting his arm gently. I felt someone staring at me and turned to see Malfoy glaring at me with a frustrated expression on his face. Lockheart pulled back a cloth to reveal small blue pixies.
"Cornish Pixies?" Seamus asked laughing.
"We don't need to defend ourselves against pixies." I said to Seamus. He laughed.
"What a tosser." He whispered back. I looked up from my desk to see that the baffoon had released the pixies out of the cage and into the classroom. Pixies are like mosquitoes. not scary just a bit of a pest. Every began to scream but I sat very still and the pixies didn't come near me. I laughed as some pixies lifted Neville by his ears. Attaching him the the light attached to the ceiling above us. I grabbed Seamus by the hand and lead him out the classroom.
"Thanks Millie you're a real life saver." Seamus said. Just as I was about to reply I felt a hand grab me and turn me around.
"Millie lets go." Draco said trying to pull me away.
"I'm ok thanks Malfoy." I said glaring at him. I walked over and stood next to Seamus taking his hand in mine.
"You would rather spend your time with a filthy half-blood like him?" Draco questioned rage bubbling in his voice. He grabbed me and pulled me near him so I could feel his breathe on my face. "What happened to you this Summer Millicent." He said staring at me. I could see genuine concern in his eyes. My lip began to quiver as I recalled what I had learned this summer.
"Seamus I'll catch up with you later." I said still looking into Draco's cloudy blue eyes. I listened as Seamus's foot steps got farther and farther away, Crabbe and Goyles following. I collapsed into Draco's arms as tears streamed down my cheeks. I told him about what had really happened to my father and how I wanted nothing to do with mudbloods anymore. He held me gently and wiped my tears away.
"It's ok Millie, he was a good man and he would have been so proud of you. Now let me get ready for Quidditch practice, meet me on the field and we'll talk after." He said gently tucking a loose curl behind my ear. Draco never showed this side of him to anyone but me. I nodded at him gratefully and went to put my books away so I could meet him on the field
