CHAPTER 3

Emily's POV

Walking into the café, I shook the rain of London off my coat and hung it up on the rack, noticing Maddie's coat was already here. "MADS!" I yelled, turning on the machines and flipping the closed side. "MADS WHERE ARE YOU?" I walked into the kitchen and found Maddie on top of some guy on a chair. "Mads, what are you doing?!" The blondes head whipped up and stared wide eyed at me. "I'm um-I." I held up my hand to stop her. I looked straight at the blonde boy underneath Maddie, his face resembling hers. "Leave, before Al comes." He looked at me confused and I rolled my eyes. "HER DAD!" In a second, the tall boy got out from under Maddie and bolted out of the front door.

Maddie got up and stared at me with her hands on her hips. "Why did you do that?" I gave her an 'are you for real?' look and tied my apron on. "Your dad's coming in, and it would be awkward of he walked in on your climax." I stated matter-of-factly as I turned on the rest of the machines. She grunted as she snatched an apron from the draw. The back door creaked open and Albert walked in with a smile. "And how are my girls this morning?" Maddie smiled and kissed her dad on the cheek. "Amazing, daddy!" I rolled my eyes as the chime went, signaling that someone had walked in.

Turning to the counter, I noticed a tall, curly haired boy walking up with his hands in his coat pockets. Grinning, he strode up to the bench and greeted me with a nod. "Hi Emily. Could I get two lattès please?" I rolled my eyes. "What, now you say please?" I questioned. He just smiled and waited for the coffees. After paying, he once again wrote on the second cup and left it on the bench, leaving with a flash of his dimples.

I only threw the cup out again, becoming frustrated with him. Maddie snuck up behind me and grabbed my sides, making me jump. "Mm, who's the eye candy?" She asked with a wink. I inwardly cringed. "No one." I stated, turning away. "Ohhh, what's his name?" She urged. "Harry Styles." I replied, brushing it off. "Ohemgee, WHAT?!" I just turned away and set up the display window. "It's nothing." She just squealed and hugged me. "Harry was in my SHOP!" I ignored her as she raved, tweeting about it on Twitter. "Fantastic." I rumbled.

Every day for two whole weeks, Harry came in with his killer smile, buying two coffees and leaving one with his number on it. And everyday I would throw the cup out. But each day he came in, I grew more fond of him, getting to know him better as he waited for me to make his coffees. I could tell Maddie was getting jealous as she was the one who always got the guy, but I honestly couldn't give a damn.

Then, one day when it was just Maddie and I, Harry came in.

"Em! Your boyfriend's here!" Maddie screamed. I gave her a cold stare as I passed her, approaching Harry. I greeted him with a smile, but he only returned it with a mischievous smirk. "Hey Harry, what could I get for you today?" I had already started to pull out two cups and tipped the coffee into the machine. "One latté to go, please." He casually said, kicking back against the bench and avoiding my glare. "Oh, just one?" I asked, my heart sinking. "Yep." He popped the p, waving at a blushing Maddie with a wink.

Angry, I prepared one coffee for him and slammed it in front of him. "$2.30 thanks." I spoke bluntly. He handed me the money and took a sip of his coffee. "Mm, not your best, Em." He commented, striding out without a backwards glance.

"What a prick!" I yelled once he had left. A few customers turned around and stared but I just waved it off. "Can you believe that Mads?!" I turned to her with a deflated expression. For two weeks I had grown fond of our chats and our little game, and it hurt that he had stopped it. Was he just not interested anymore?

"Hmm? Oh, yeah, whatever." She seemed disconnected, looking away. Brushing off her weird attitude, I ripped off my apron and threw it into the clothes bin. "My shift's over, I'll see you tomorrow." I told her, leaving her to inspect her nails.

Later that afternoon, I was lounging on the couch watching Friends reruns when my phone rang. I picked it up and realized it was an unknown number. "Hola?" I asked, popping a chip into my mouth. "Hello Emily, it's Harry." I stopped crunching, trying to process what the person on the other end had said. "What?!" I heard a familiar laugh on the other end of the line which confirmed that it was, in fact, Harry. "How the hell did you get my number?!" I asked. "I have my sources." was all he replied with. "It was Maddie, wasn't it?" I groaned and Harry only laughed. "Well since you kept rejecting me, I decided to take matters into my own hands."

I couldn't help but smile. "But I was enjoying out little game." I could literally FEEL his grin. " Believe me, I was as well, but it was getting boring. I was time to catch the fish." I snorted. "What?!" His laugh echoed over the phone, making me blush. "Well, aside from my weird analogy, what would you say to going out with me?" He asked with not a trace of nervousness in his voice. I thought about it for a second before deciding that I still wanted control in this game of ours. "I'll think about it." I casually said. "I'll get back to you." I heard his sigh. "Fine. I shall be waiting." He spoke, before hanging up the line. I smiled down at the black screen and thought about what had just happened. "Oh boy."

Harry's POV

I kicked back on the couch with a happy sigh. Although she hasn't said yes, I had her number, and that counted to something, right? "You look awfully happy this afternoon, whatcha been up to?" Zayn came in and plonked down next to me with a bag of pretzels. I grabbed a few and shoveled them into my mouth before I started to story tell.

"So, there's this girl..." I started and Zayn just groaned. "No no, let me finish." I shook my head violently to show him this was different. "Okay, so there's this girl who I accidentally hit in the head with a ball." Zayn's eyebrow shot up and I only smiled. "Bear with me. So this girl, Emily, works in a coffee shop and I've been going there everyday and talking to her-" I was cut off by Zayn's silencing hand. "Wait, how do you know she worked there?" I blushed and looked down at my hands. "I searched her on Facebook?" I flashed a grin at Zayn but he just rolled his eyes. "Go on." He gestured. "Yeah, so I've been talking with her over these past few weeks and everyday I've been leaving my number on a cup, but she never calls back."

"WHAT?!" He looked at me with wide eyes and I couldn't help but laugh. "Don't worry, she's not a Directioner and throws the cup out anyway." I waved him off. "Can you let me finish?" I asked, impatient now. He nodded. "And NOW today I got her number off her friend and called to ask her out!" Zayn stared at me as if waiting for something. "And...?" He questioned with a nod. "And...she said that she would think about it." I suddenly felt deflated, noticing I had been blown off. "It's okay buddy, if it's meant, it'll work out." He pat me on the back and stretched, leaving me alone in the snack room.

Grabbing my phone, I scrolled down and found Emily's number.

To: Emily

If you're not busy tomorrow, can we meet at Hudson's Park at around 11? I'll be waiting ;)

After staring at the text for a while, I changed the wink to a smile, only to change it back again. I pressed send to stop myself from over thinking things. What was I, a girl? No. I was a confident man who would get what he wanted. And what I wanted was a certain curvy, red head who was EXTREMELY attractive. And what Harry wants, Harry gets.

From: Emily
