-Natalie-

I'm never a fan of mornings, especially Monday mornings. The main reason is that it basically reminds you that you still have four more dreadful days until the weekend arrives, which, sadly, is only two days. Like every other typical Monday in January, I wait for my friend Seth to come pick me up, but it seems like he's late....again. If he doesn't come soon, there's a 100 percent of chance that I'm going to receive my third detention of the school year, and I certainly don't want that to happen.

So here I am, standing outside in the cold and looking at my watch for the millionth time.

"I should've woken up earlier," I mumble to myself as I pace back and forth on the front porch, steam coming steadily out of my mouth. My dad has already left with my little sister an hour ago, and I am now regretting the fact that I have confidently declined their invitation to go to school earlier. Rubbing my numb hands together, I check my watch once again, as if it'll make the time pass by slower. I now have two options -- either keep on waiting for Seth or walk to school. Both options would lead me to freeze to death.

I sigh; this is what you get for refusing to sleep earlier, Natalie.

Then, I hear the sound of his approaching car, "Sorry, Nat." He rolls down the window whereas I simply nod my head for acknowledgement instead of answering him, mostly because I'm scared that my mouth will fall right out of my face if I begin to speak. Promptly, I get inside at the back seat and find myself yawning uncontrollably, yearning for sleep, the moment I close the door. I hug my folders closer to me, appreciating that the heater was turned on in his truck.

Ah, thank you Albert Marsh for this marvelous invention.

He chuckles, "YouTube videos last night?"

"Shut up," I mutter wearily, "and start driving, we're almost late."

"Whatever. Just go ahead and treat Mr. Driver like that," he shakes his head for emphasis of disapproval and hands me a cup of ice coffee, "By the way, I got this from Dunkin' Donuts, so thank me."

"Thank you Mr. Driver, who's so polite to buy this poor girl a coffee."

He grins cheekily before he turns around and starts to drive. Bare trees stand outside, making them look sad without their leaves, which are all over the ground. The sky today is a cloudy grey, a hint that rain's coming any minute now. Despite the fact that it's winter, it's still usual for it to not snow during this season. After all, we live in the south.

After a few minutes, the school building eventually emerges ahead of us, with the giant white bolded words "Jefferson High School " visibly printed on the brick walls. Just as Seth parks his truck in his designated parking spot, the bell rings vehemently to signal us that we are almost late. I bolt right out of his car and slam the door, leaving my finished coffee cup inside on the floor of the vehicle.

He hollers behind me, "Nat! Don't you dare leave trash in my truck!"

Laughing, I sprint faster and reply back loudly, "Sorry, I'll buy you two mango slushies for lunch okay?"

"Two mango slushies and one Snickers bar!"

Sorry Seth, but at least Coach Jenkins is not going to give you detention for being tardy!

Avoiding the main office, I immediately run to the opposite direction of the hallway. Since I'm not watching where I am going, I don't realize that I'm about to bump into a person until it's too late. Of course, that person also happens to be running, so it's just like a Clash of Clans moment.

And let me tell you; it's not a pretty moment at all.
