Chapter Twenty-One

Patton and Virgil were heading to a shop with plushies first. Patton really wanted to buy a cute puppy one.

"Lookie!" Patton shoved a soft brown and white puppy plush with big, sparkly, blue eyes to Virgil.

"Aw," Virgil handed it back, "is that the one you want?" it asked.

"Yes, but I want this cat one too," He picked up another big eyed animal, a black cat with a white belly and paws.

"Lets get them then," Virgil smiled.

The two payed for the two plushies, Patton nuzzling and cuddling them into his arms.

"Where else do you wanna go?" Virgil wrapped a spider leg around his waist, bringing him to its side.

Patton went pink from the action, "O-Oh, um, where ever you want!"

"Mm," it hummed, "Maybe Hot Topic then."

"Sure!"

They walked to where the small store would be, but not without many weird looks from strangers.

Despite the looks, Patton didn't pay them any mind. He was excitedly talking to his date. He didn't want anything to ruin this day for him.

Virgil, however, was getting pissed and nervous. It was getting pissed at the rude looks, especially when a person went red when looking at Patton's outfit. Nervous because it doesn't want to freak out and do something to ruin their date.

It needed to calm down.

"Patton?" Virgil stopped suddenly, all eyes wide and alert.

"Hm? What is it?" he asked. He noticed how stiff and upset the spider creature looked, "Are you ok?" he asked with concern.

Virgil reached towards him, "I-I need a hug."

Patton smiled, getting closer so he could wrap his arms around the taller, "Of course!" it was a simple enough request, and if it'd help it feel any better, he'd do it.

Virgil immediately wrapped all its limps around the small boy, bringing him as close as he could to its body. It dug its nose in the fluffy hair, taking a deep breath through its nose, relaxing immediately at the scent of its soon-to-be mate.

"V-Virgil?" Patton squirmed to try and see Virgil's face, but he couldn't with the grip, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing," Virgil moved away from the fluffy hair, looking down at the worried boy. He was just.. so cute.

It wanted to bite him.

Virgil rested its head on Patton's shoulder, "I feel better now, so it doesn't matter."

Bite him, finally claim him as its mate.

"Well, if you say so." Patton looked around at some of the looks people were giving them.

Was it upset from that? Looks people were giving it? Well, he is a guy in a dress, hanging out with the only spider creature in town, and they are being affectionate.

But who cares what they think? This is their date.

"Hey, we should get going to Hot To-" Patton squeaked when Virgil's mouth was right at his neck, shivering at the hot breaths.

"V-Virgil.." he stuttered. Patton actually didn't feel scared. More like.. excited.

Virgil didn't say anything. It was literally in a fight with its creature part. It shouldn't bite Patton, not here and not without permission. But he'd finally be its! It could kiss him, hug him, its scent would be on him, why wait anyways when they're on a date? Clearly that means something.

Patton took a deep breath, and forcefully shoved Virgil away, "We should go to Hot Topic." he said politely, desperately trying not to look away from its eyes from embarrassment.

Virgil blinked, "Oh, uhm, yeah," it looked down in guilt, the two beginning to walk off again.

Virgil felt like it was gonna cry. As pathetic as that sounds, it was absolutely terrified now. It fucked up, and now the whole date could be ruined. And it felt.. rejected. And that wasn't a nice feeling for its spider part.

Patton was trying to calm down from his weird excitement over that. He doesn't want Virgil to bite him yet, to mark him. He wanted to date first so he knew for sure that he'd be happy with Virgil for the rest of his life. Since creatures are mates for life, and there are hardly any cases where they split apart, and if they do, it sucks for both parts.

The freckled boy look over at Virgil, frowning at the upset and guilty look in its eyes.

He didn't want it to feel bad.

"Soo," Patton leaned against it, taking its hand in his, "What are you wanting at Hot Topic? I might get myself a Funko Pop or pin. Maybe a cute shirt too!" he giggled.

Virgil looked surprise and hesitant, "Oh, maybe a hoodie or something.." it trailed off, looking back ahead.

Patton squeezed its hand, "Hey, it's ok, I'm not-"

"We're here," Virgil cut him off, quickly heading inside, letting go of his hand. Patton frowned again, but went in the edgy themed store.

He wanted to be with Virgil again, but it seems uncomfortable now. So he went to where the Funko Pops and pins would be.

Virgil hissed quietly, "God damnit!" it tugged at its bangs. It felt horrible for being that close to sinking its fangs into his neck. Why would Patton want to date it now? Let alone be mates..

"Something bugging ya?"

Virgil jumped, turning around to see the worker here. She had black hair that covered an eye, purple eyeliner, and many piercings. One on her tounge, three on her left ear, one on her nose, and one eyebrow piercing.

"Uh.." Virgil gave her a look. Why was a human willingly talking to a creature?

"It's cool, my stepbrother is a squirrel creature." She reassured, "Are you on a date with that kid, or are you just friends? Because I'm also a lesbian, so gay people are cool with me too." she showed the lesbian pin under her jacket.

Virgil felt itself relax, "Uhm, yeah, that's my date. I'm Virgil."

"Rose," she introduced herself, "I've never seen a spider creature here." she looked impressed.

"Oh yeah, I'm the only one in town." Virgil shrugged.

Rose hummed, looking back at Patton, "He's a cutie. Is the date going wrong? You looked upset."

"Something like that," Virgil awkwardly laughed.

Rose was looking at a spider leg, "Hey, could I hold that?"

Patton decided on a Lapis Funko Pop and a cute cupcake pin. He turned back, freezing when he saw a girl holding one of Virgil's spider legs, Virgil smiling at her.

He puffed his cheeks, he did not like that at all.
