When Gold Meets Red (Alec Volturi X OC)

Chapter 20: Confrontation

The snow was starting to stick. We were in the woods around the same clearing where months ago we fought newborns. I was currently in a tree looking off into the distance. Every so often when the breeze blew I could catch a whiff of my mate's scent. I was in a red and black top with black skinny jeans and black combat boots with my signature leather jacket. I had in a pair of earrings that the Romanians got me one year when I visited them, the Volturi crest hidden away in my jacket and my ring on my finger. I turned my attention back to those below me.

I finally moved out of the tree when my brothers began telling the story of how they once ruled the vampire world.

"When we ruled, everything came to us. Prey, diplomats, favor seekers. Such was our power, but we never put on white hats and called ourselves saints." Vlad started.

"We were honest about what we were." Stefan said. I loved my brothers and instead once again found myself staring off into the distance.

I could feel other's staring at me. Those that knew that I was a Volturi's mate, but they never said anything.

At daybreak most of us made our way to the field and by the time Renesmee woke up Bella, Edward, and Renesmee joined us. I stood close to the Cullen's, but between both of my brothers. I heard others murmur things to their mates while I kept my gaze locked on the woods in front of us. I only cracked a small smile when the pack joined us as the Volturi finally made an appearance. Instead of looking toward my mate I kept my gaze locked on Aro who was searching for Alice. When they finally paused I saw a small glare make its way to the dark-haired king's face upon seeing me stand with my brothers causing me to smirk.

"Aro, let us discuss things as we used to. In a civilized manner." Carlisle stepped forward.

I turned to my brothers before whispering lowly in Romanian, "Voi sta cu Bella și Renesmee. O să fiu bine."

I moved toward the newborn and my niece as Carlisle and Aro kept talking. I could feel Alec's eyes follow my every move, but I still refused to meet his eyes. I stood behind Renesmee as she was in between Jacob and Bella. I placed a hand on her shoulder and sent a wave of calm toward her as I could feel her anxiousness.

"We see the child." I heard the blonde king say. "Do not treat us as fools."

"She is not an Immortal! These witnesses can attest to that, or you can look. See the flush of human blood in her cheeks." Carlisle said while gesturing toward Renesmee.

"Artifice!" I looked toward the blonde king and glared.

"I will collect every facet of the truth. But from someone more central to the story." Aro says looking toward Edward. "Edward. As the child clings to your newborn mate, I assume you are involved." Edward looks toward Bella before he makes his way to the field. I gazed around at the Volturi and their witnesses and copied the powers that I didn't already have. I made sure to avert my gaze before my eyes reached Alec. "I'd like to meet her."

I snapped my eyes back toward the king and Edward who looked toward Bella and Renesmee. The child turned toward me and placed her hand on my cheek begging me to come with her.

Bella, Jacob, Emmett, Renesmee, and I walked forward towards the Volturi king to the middle of the clearing. I ignored the low hisses that escaped Vlad and Stefan and I kept my face expressionless as I stood with my family. I knew both Felix and Demetri were trying to get me to look at them but I refused keeping my gaze on my niece. I heard one of them whisper low enough for Alec to hear that I was wearing the ring.

"Hello Aro." Renesmee said before she touches his cheek and shows him her story.

"Magnifico! Half mortal, half immortal. Conceived and carried by this newborn while she was still human." Aro said as our small group moved away. I stood next to Jacob who snarled at the dark haired king who was talking to his own brother.

"Enough Jacob." I said lowly. "Come on let's go back to Ness." I tell the russet wolf as I start to walk away.

"Bring the informer forward." Caius said coldly after Jake and I were back with Renesmee. One of the lower guards pushed Irina toward both the kings. "Is that the child you saw?" Caius questioned pointing a finger toward Renesmee.

"I'm not sure." Rina told him.

"Jane."

Before Jane has a chance Rina spoke up. "She's changed. This child is bigger."

"Then your allegations were false." The blonde king told my cousin.

"The Cullen's are innocent. I take full responsibility for my mistake." Irina says before looking toward her sisters and finally me. We were always the closest out of the Cullen's and Denali's. "I'm sorry."

"Caius don't!" Edward yelled out as he grabbed me knowing what would happen.

I see Felix and Demetri move to hold Irina's arms and pull them off as Caius snaps off her head. I heard Kate and Tanya's cry out Irina's name as someone handed Caius something to set Rina's body on fire. I broke out of Edwards hold and collapsed to the ground as a sob escaped me.

"Blind them." Edward said to Zafrina and I. I focused to make sure my mist didn't have any fear in it as I used my mate's gift to paralyze both sisters taking away their eyesight only.

I blocked out what was said as I kept my gaze locked on Irina's still burning body not daring to move.

Alec's POV

As soon as we stepped out on the field I quickly searched for my mate and nearly growled seeing her stand with her Romanian brothers. I kept my gaze on her as she moved toward the child. When she moved with both the newborn mate of Edward, a wolf, and Emmett I nearly moved from my place and wrapped her in my arms but Jane and Luna kept me in place. Either Felix or Demetri whispered low enough for me to hear that she was wearing the ring. I looked and caught sight of the promise ring I had sent her months ago.

I almost called out her name when I heard her speak to the wolf. I wanted to be the one to hold her when Edward held her back as Irina Denali was executed. When she broke out of Edward's grasp and fell to the ground and let out a heart-wrenching sob I nearly broke as well.

"Blind them." I heard Edward say towards an Amazon woman or Alexis. I kept my gaze locked on Alexis as she used my gift to deprive the Denali sisters of their sight. Instead of looking toward the sister's and her brother she kept her gaze on Irina's burning corpse.

"We have to attack." Tanya Denali said.

"That's what they want. If you attack now we'll all die." Edward told the sister's. "Alexis." He said. I turned my attention back to my mate who did nothing but call back the mist. The Romanians moved toward her and helped her up, before they moved back to where they were standing.

Alexis's POV

I pulled back Alec's gift when I heard Edward say my name. I allowed Vlad and Stefan to pull me to my feet afterwards as well while Edward began to walk back toward his small family. I forced a smile on my face as Vlad and Stefan moved back to their spot. I turned back toward the scene in front of me but instead of avoiding Alec's gaze I looked him dead in the eye before glaring at his sister who uttered the one word that brought me back to all those months ago in Volterra.

"Pain."

Out of the corner of my eye I saw Edward fall to the ground but not even a second later he got up as Bella expanded her shield over everyone on our side.

"It's working." Edward stated when he joined us. I saw Jane shift her focus from Edward to everyone else trying to see if her gift will work. Alec moved causing me to shift my gaze to him after Jane met my glare.

"Now let's see if it will work against his." I mutter lowly. Before Alec even could release his gift Aro stopped him.

"Aro, you see no law has been broken here." Carlisle said.

"Agreed. But does it then follow that there is no danger?" Aro started. I blocked out the king as I shared a look with Edward knowing he heard what I did.
