~*1 YEAR BEFORE AMAYAA AND BRIAR MEET*~

~* 7 YEARS PRIOR*~

(this chapter is kind of long-)

The bone-chilling snow crunched under her as she fell to the ground.

Sounds of a low giggle sounded behind her,

"May..? What are you doing get up and play!" He said, tugging at her coat.

She pressed her bare cheek deeper into the snow, feeling the particles melt before her warm rosy cheeks.

"Listening." She replied, closing her eyes and letting herself sink further into the snow,

A lightweight jumped onto her back,

"For what?" He said again, laying on her back trying to listen to whatever she was listening to.

She opened her eyes and smiled against the white-hot mass.

"Can't you hear?" She smiled, flipping herself over to face her little brother, his bright fuschia cheeks raised as he smiled while he fell into the ground at her sudden movement. She picked him up from the ground and set him on her lap,

"Spring, that's what I'm listening to." She said ruffling the snowflakes from his light brown hair, he batted his blonde eyelashes that were freckled with snowflakes,

"Spring? You're crazy!" He giggled,

Amayaa admired his tiny features, his little button nose that was always red and runny, and his freckled cheeks that seemed to be dusted by angels kisses.

She sat him next to her and laid onto her back, looking up at the sky that was bordered by bare branches filled with soft blankets of snow,

Zeke plopped onto the ground and looked up at the sky as well,

"You listen a lot May," He whispered in his high-pitched four-year-old voice.

"I know. You should listen too. " She whispered back, she watched the cold outline of her breath escape her lips melting into the cold air.

"May! Zeke!" A familiar voice rang out, Zeke sprung up and nudged her in the side,

"Come on! It's time for your party! Remember?" He said cheerfully,

Amayaa could hear his little feet crunching away at the snow, she got up and looked at the yelling figure.

Her mother stood there, with her long signature shawl wrapped around her tired shoulders.

She frowned at the thought of preparing for the ball. She wiped her eyes as she got to her aching feet.  Her feet took her to the long door that led back into the mansion, she stopped to look back at the far willow tree that they had just laid in. Her knees ached and numbed again as she stepped into the warm, familiar house.

The smells of the near kitchen wafted down the hallways.

She walked up to the long, carpeted stairs, she took the left hallway to walk to her room.

And pushed the crystal doorknob back and stepped into her white room.

The wallpaper was grey and had twisting black branches dancing up to the ceiling, that was her favorite part of her safe space.

She turned to the vanity and placed her pale hand on the long black dress hung over the velvet chair,

She pulled it by the shoulders and held it in front of herself, looking at simple but intricate patterns painted from the length of the dress. She unzipped the back and hung it back on the chair, she stripped off her long heavy coat and pants. She stepped into the light fabric and pulled the torso of the dress onto hers, the strip of bare skin on her chest and upper stomach aligned,
