Jay and Hailey

16 Haileys mom

Hailey woke up with the sun directly in her eyes and she didn't remember opening up the curtains.
Then she heard movement in the kitchen.
She grabbed her gun from the safe and slowly approached the kitchen.
"I have a gun."
She said as she narrowed the open fridge.
The door to the fridge closed.
"Mom, what are you doing here?"
"How did you find me?"

"I got a little girl In here."
"Hailey,is that any way to greet your mom,and since when have you had a daughter?"
Her mom stood putting her hands on her hips.

"Not that it's any of your business but I'm fostering a little girl."
Hailey said walking up to the counter.
"Speaking of,she has to get ready for school so if you don't mind." Hailey said gesturing her hands towards the door.

"Nonsense Hailey,I'm making breakfast."
"Look,some pancakes I just made,sit down would you?"
"Mom!"
"I can't right now,I need to drop Ava off In 20 minutes,and I have to be at work in 30,so please maybe do this later."
"Or you know what just stay here."

"Come on Ava,let's get dressed."
Hailey said walking to her room and opening up the door.
"Ava,come on wake up." Hailey said sitting on the edge of her bed and shaking Ava gently.
Hailey suddenly noticed looking closer at Ava that she was sweating. Hailey immediately felt her forehead,and she was burning up.
Hailey ran to the kitchen,  "mom where is a thermometer."
Her mom ravaged through the kitchen turning everything upside down and threw Hailey the thermometer.
Hailey sped to Avas room and checked her temp which was at 107.3.
"MOM We need to go to the hospital!"
Hailey took Ava in her arms and ran out the front door,forgetting to lock it and threw the keys to her mom.
"Alright let's go."
Her mom said
"I'll drive."
Her mom said and Hailey hopped in the back with Ava.
"Mom drive faster."
"Honey I'm trying."
Hailey was so distracted focusing on Ava that she missed that her phone was buzzing in her pocket.
"Hailey your phone."
Her mom could see through the mirror how distraught Hailey was.
Hailey slid her phone out of her pocket and it said 5 missed calls from Jay.
She rang Jay.
"Listen,I'm taking Ava to the hospital."
"She has a high fever of 107."

"I'll be there."
Was all he said and hung up.

Jays POV
I assumed that it was Chicago med because it was the closest hospital.
I quickly made my way to the hospital with my truck.
When I got there I saw Hailey holding Ava and some women getting out of the car,which looked a lot like Hailey.
Hailey looked distraught and she looked like she had some work clothes on,but didn't get to finish.
I quickly got out of my car and made my way over to her.
She saw me and walked towards me.
"Jay,she's not waking up."

"It's okay,let's just get her inside.
I said putting my hand on her shoulder to show her I was there for her.

"Please, I need a doctor."
Hailey said and a doctor rushed up to her
"She's burning up do you know what happened?"
"No I was just trying to wake her up this morning,and I saw that she was sweating."
Hailey said putting her hands on her head,rubbing her temple.

"Okay we'll need to take her to the ER."
Hailey tried to follow behind,but another doctor stopped her.
"Miss,you can't go back there."

"What are you talking about?"
Hailey said.
"That's my foster daughter,she needs me."

"I understand that miss,but she had to go to the ER you can wait here."

"Hails,it will be okay let's go sit over here."
I said lightly grabbing her arm and guiding her over to the chair.
"Jay,I can't...I can't lose her,she needs me and I need her."
"I know,hails it's going to be okay."
I said to her as tears formed in her eyes.
Her blue eyes glossy and tears streamed down,I hated seeing her cry.

"She can't die."
She said as tears streamed down her face.
"I know Hailey,she'll be fine."
"I promise,okay?"
I said as I pulled her into my shoulder.
"Hailey,what's the update?"
"I'm sorry I was parking the car, I swear you can never find a close parking space."
She said putting the keys in her purse.
The same women that I saw earlier came up to Hailey.
Hailey pulled away from me and wiped tears from her face.
"Uh...they just took her into the ER."
She said taking deep breaths.

"Jay, this is my mom."
She said as she held her hand out toward the woman.
I should have pieced it together that they were related,she had the same blond hair as Hailey,the only thing that was different was that the nose was different. If it was the same they could practically be twins.

Hailey didn't say a word for 30 minutes.
She stood by the door that they took Ava through. I watched as she finally sat down,and put her hands over her face, taking even breaths as she calmed herself.

I gave her a couple seconds before taking a seat beside her.
"Hailey,you need to eat something."
I said as I gently put my hand on her back
"I'm good Jay,I'm not hungry."
She said.
I knew she was going to say that,but I kept on insisting.

"I know that you think you are not hungry,but you haven't eaten anything since yesterday night."
"I know because,I did that back when my dad died,and I know you remember that because you were the one who told me that I needed to eat."
"Jay.."
"No,I know that you are stressed right now, but you have to eat something,if not me do it for Ava.."
"Okay."
Was all she said.
She began to get up,but I told her that I would get something for her.
"Nonsense,you can stay here with her,and I'll grab something."
Her mom stated and stopped in her tracks when Hailey stood up and raised her voice.
"Goodness,mom can you just stop forcing things that aren't meant to be."
Hailey said getting up.
"I..know you have good intentions, and I appreciate you being here but you should go."

"Hailey,please." "what did I do that made you hate me?"
Her mom said crossing her arms and raising her voice.

I felt bad sitting here listening,but I know Hailey needed someone to be there for her at this moment.
"You stayed with dad and he abused you, every time you gave him one more chance that he did not deserve."
"Hai..
"No, you had every chance to take us with you and leave dad, but you never did."

"Hail..."
Her mom started.
"No,please you need to leave."
Hailey said with a stern voice.

"I am going to be here for Ava,you are not apart of this."
She said and sat back down.

Her mom displayed a hurt face and shoved her purse up her arm and walked up out of there.
Looking one more time back at Hailey and walked out the hospital doors.

"Hail."
"Jay please,I'm going to cry again and I don't want to."

"Alright,you stay here and I'll grab you a snack."
I said as I looked at her and squeezed her shoulder before heading off to the cafe.
