Jessie wrapped up her shift at the cafe, she grabbed her jacket and left out back after locking it up. She hummed a small tune as she walked down the dark streets

"Jessica Lucy Barnes" someone said from behind her

"I'm sorry, wrong person. My name is Melinda Hopkins" Jessie stated with a slight cringe at her new cover name, not looking back as she held her hand ready to get her bracelet activated. Soon all lights in a few blocks went out and by the looks of it cars did as well. Jessie turned around to see a cloaked figure. She tried to tap into her bracelet realising it was an EMP which went out. She sighed as she realised she had no weapons

"As I said, Jessica Lucy Barnes... born 1922" He said again

"I don't know who you are, but leave me alone" Jessie yelled and she tried to walk away, the gloved hand had grabbed her arm. She hissed a little before letting her get pulled back so she could lift up her elbow about to hit him in the neck until he caught it. Little did he know, she knew it would happen so she put one leg behind his and kicked him in the croch. He let go of her briefly as she then punched him in the face. To her surprise, he had grabbed a rope and tried to get it around her neck. She gagged a little before using it to turn and headbut him. The mask shielded his face unfortunately causing Jessie to stumble back more than him, he swung three punches at Jessie, two in the ribs and one on the lips. She stumbled down to the floor and used it to her advantage. She kicked him in the chest and she tripped him over. She then used her powers to drain a bit from him, but she then left him stab her in the side. She bit her bleeding lip before using her absorbed life from him to mega punch him out cold. She grabbed her jacket and ran back to her house after pulling out the knife. She unlocked her door and slid down her fridge exhautedly

"What happened to you!?" Rhodey asked as he came out of Georges room, seeing the blood stains down the fridge

"Attacked" Jessie mumbled as she kept the kitchen towel on her stab wound. Rhodey walked over to see her and panicked. He pulled her up and took her to the couch. He led her on it and grabbed the first aid kit from her room and walked over to her.

"This might sting... a lot" Rhodey said. Jessie nodded and she felt the ethonal hit her wound. She bit back on shouting, scared to wake up her son.
"Stop biting, you're making it worse" Rhodey complained

"What happened to the babysitter?" Jessie asked

"She had to leave, she couldn't get a hold of you so she sent me, I got here an hour ago and gave George some chicken nuggets and fries" Rhodey answered

"Hmm, that's great" Jessie said leaning back trying to distract herself as he poured a little more on the wound.

"Who did this?" Rhodey asked

"No clue, I wanna kill them" Jessie snarled

"Well, let me stitch you up and sort these bruises and whatever else out then I'll call Tony and he can ask you" Rhodey said

"You wouldn't-" Jessie said and he deliberately poured more on her wound causing her to shut up.
"You're lucky I like you" She growled. He quickly pressed call on Tony as he started to put the needle into her. She gasped a little as she felt it

"What on earth is that?" Tony asked

"A beat up Jessie, she got attacked on her way home" Rhodey explained

"I'm fine" Jessie whispered as she leaned back further as she left the wound getting pulled together

"Sounds like it. I'll come over, is George..." Tony asked not wanting to finish the sentence

"In bed, he was here with me" Rhodey explained

"I'll bring Pepper and Morgan with me, we are coming over" Tony said and ended the call.

"So mean" Jessie said inbetween her breaths

"Will you please try to calm down?" Rhodey asked

"My ribs are broken so sorry I need to breathe!" Jessie snarled.

"Jesus... how bad are you actually?" He asked

"Well, busted lip, open wound, broken ribs and... mild concussion" Jessie whispered, then Tony walked in with Pepper and a sleeping Morgan.

"What the actual hell" Tony said

"Rhodes, please knock me out" Jessie begged

"Nope, you got to deal with that one" Rhodey laughed

"You used your powers, didn't you" Tony said

"Howd you know?" Jessie asked and Tony lightly prodded her bruised legs.
"Son of a bitch" Jessie said.

"Alright that's the side one, your head" Rhodey said and he poured a little on her lip and forehead where it was cut.

"Tastes nice" Jessie joked

"Its alcohol so of course you'll say that" Rhodey said

"Great idea, someone give me my vodka" Jessie said

"If it shuts her up" Rhodey said and Tony gave her some.

She soon passed out on the couch with her head on Rhodeys lap.

"Did she say who done it?" Tony asked

"No, but I tried to get the footage and the guy used a very old EPM to wipe out a lot" Rhodey explained

"Was it someone she knew?" Tony tried to figure out

"No idea Tony, if I knew I wouldn't be sat here right now" Rhodey answered

"Did you tell Natasha?" Pepper asked

"No, I'll text her" Rhodey said quickly typing a message to Nat explaining it very briefly.

"How much Vodka did she drink?" Pepper asked

"Half a bottle" Tony said picking it up while Rodey looked how the lip and her gushed head were healing.

"Did she say how bad it was?" Tony asked, then they all heard a yawn from the doorway of George's room

"Tony, switch" Rhodey said and Tony quickly dived to take Rhodeys place in keeping Jessie's head up right

"Uncle Rhodey? Why here still?" Geroge asked

"Just... don't worry buddy, let's get you to bed" Rhodey said then George saw Jessie's legs

"Mama..." George said and walked around the corner and saw his mother led there
"Mama" he cried as his bottom lip dropped

"Hey Mr Strong, she will be okay, I promise. She is just sleeping so she can get better" Tony reassured

"Antie Pep" George said and hugged Pepper and seeing Morgan in the carseat next to her

"Let's take you to bed" Pepper said carrying George into his bedroom. She tucked the tiny brunette into bed and he smiled slightly

"Help mama get better?" He said unsure

"We will, and so will you in the morning" Pepper said and kissed his forehead before she left his room.

"I'll stay here, you two should go home and rest... I'll keep you updated" Rhodey said and Pepper hugged him before picking up the carseat with an asleep Morgan.

"I probably won't sleep, she didn't deserve this" Tony said as he bushed the brown curls behind her shoulders. The two best friends hugged before they left, leaving Jessie and Rhodey in the lounge.
