Chapter 24: Not The End

Not the end

I trembled in fear. I hate myself for being like this when I'm in this kind of situation. Pero tao lang ko. Natatakot ako dahil sino ba namang normal na tao ang hindi matatakot sa mga nangyayari.

All of us are striving to survive eventhough we are in the darkest part of our lives. Still, we kept our hopes. But there are really those times when you will be suddenly covered with questions and doubts.

"Close the gates!!!"

My eyes widened when I realized what Selena ordered.

I am watching Ate Aide and Kuya Phoenix as they run for their lives towards us. I covered my mouth when I shifted my gaze to the dead. Kahit naagnas ay kitang kita ko sa kanila ang gutom at alam kong may lakas pa sila para habulin ang mga buhay na nasa kanilang harapan.

"Guns! Shoot them!" Ani Sergeant na agad pinigilan ni Selena na syang ikinabigla ko.

"No! Mas lalo lang nating makukuha ang kanilang atensyon." Matigas na sabi ni Selena.

I can't understand her! Her son is outside with the other lives and they need back up. Are we just gonna watch them?!

"They will make it."

Hindi makapaniwalang napailing-iling ako.

I gasped when I saw Kuya Hakeem stumbled with another changer. I don't think I'll be able to watch him but Ate Aide and Kuya Machia jogged back to help him since nahuhuli sya sa kanila. I bit my lower lip as I walk back to the house. I covered my ears in frustration yet I can still hear their hungry groans. It's nerve-wrecking because it's been days already since I've heard their evil noises.

"Xandre!" Hinihingal na sinalubong ako ni El.

Pababa sya ng hagdan at agad nya akong sinunggaban ng yakap.

"El, they're here!" I said in fear.

"I saw them. Si Dominic?" Mabilis nyang sabi kaya nanlaki ang mata ko.

Marahas na ginulo ko ang aking buhok. Sabay kaming napatingin ni El sa labas nang may marinig kaming putok ng baril. Nagkatinginan kaming dalawa pero parehas kaming naguguluhan at hindi alam kung ano ang dapat gawin.

Dome and the others are at the forest and I don't f*cking know how they are doing. Sa takot ko ay nakalimutan ko pang isa rin si Dome sa mga nanganganib. I held my chest when I felt the pain due to the fear, worry and sadness.

"El, sumama ka sa akin. 'Wag kang lalayo." I said to him.

Kumunot ang kanyang noo, magsasalita pa sya sana pero tumakbo na ako patungo sa dirty kitchen at papunta sa likod ng bahay. I know the gates are open back there and I saw Harris and Hebrew slowly closing it. I can hear the shouts of Selena from the frontyard.

"Harris! Ano'ng ginagawa nyo?!" I screamed as I run towards them.

"We have no time." Walang emosyong sabi ni Harris.

"No!" I walked to him and pushed him but he's sturdy enough. "They are still outside."

Mariin ngunit nanginginig ang boses ko. I can't let them do this. If Selena is brave enough to do this, then I am not. The corner of my eyes started to feel hot. It didn't take long for my eyes to water. There are still lives out there.

"They are and we are here! We can't risk the remaining lives in here!"

"How selfish—"

"Stop it, Xandre!" Harris cut me off.

Hinawakan ni El ang braso ko para ilayo ako kay Harris. I let my tears stream down my face.

"H-Hebrew, hahayaan mo lang ito?!" Umiiyak na tanong ko pero nakatiim ang bagang ni Hebrew.
