It was now the day of the Vacker-Thanksgiving-Family-Picnic, and Sophie was a little less than excited.

She hadn't heard back from Keefe since she'd left him that message, and she was very tempted to drive down to Georgia and beat him up for it.

But he was in college and was probably very busy, so she just had to keep hoping that he'd magically appear at the Vacker's house that afternoon.

"Sophie!" Edaline called. "Grady and I are heading over there, are you coming with us, or are you going to drive yourself?"

As Sophie frantically searched for her other shoe, she yelled, "You can go ahead, I'll meet you guys there!"

Sophie was dressed in a beige sweater-dress with leggings and one of her brown boots. At the moment, she was looking for the other one.

She looked in her bathroom, under her bed, and even near Iggy's cage, but she still couldn't find them anywhere.

"If you ate my boot," She told Iggy, glaring at him. "I'll skin you alive,"

Seeing as though she couldn't find it upstairs, she decided to head downstairs and look. She looked in the living room, in the kitchen, in the foyer, and in the spare bathroom. But she still couldn't find it.

Finally, when she had only one place to look, she found it. It was in the laundry room.

But it wasn't the only thing in the laundry room.

Sitting, chewing on her boot, was Oakley.

"No!" Sophie shrieked, running over and pulling it out of the dog's mouth. But it was already too late. Oakley had scattered the shoe with so many bite marks, Sophie couldn't even tell it was a shoe anymore. "Bad dog," She said, glaring at Oakley. "You're not supposed to eat shoes."

Sophie decided to take a picture of the destruction and send it to Keefe. He'd probably get a good laugh out of it and maybe start texting her back again.

She handed Oakley the tore-up shoe back and ran up the stairs, looking for something else to put on her feet. All she could find were beige flats, so she slipped those on and got into her car.

"Fitz is here!" Biana announced throughout the house as a rapping noise filled the room. "He's here!"

"Calm down," Alvar said, rolling his eyes. "We literally saw him three months ago."

The knocking continued and Della raced to the door, opening it and engulfing Fitz in the biggest hug Sophie had ever seen.

"You're home," Della said, kissing his forehead. "We've missed you so much!"

Fitz laughed. "But I've only been gone for three months,"

"Exactly what I said," Alvar walked over and gave Fitz a fist-bump. "Welcome back,"

"Thanks," Fitz said walking farther into the house and greeting everyone else. "It's great to see everyone again."

After everyone had said their hellos, Fitz pulled Sophie away from everyone else—which confused Sophie a lot.

"Welcome back," She said with a smile, trying to figure out what was going on.

"Thanks," He said. "Um, I wanted to tell you that Keefe called me the other day and said that he couldn't come because he had a really big project he had to work on."
