I Was Told

I was told to be as silent as the oceans.

However, the winds can become so great that the waves surge with rage and rumble with fearlessness.

Despite how still and quiet the sailors pray for the sea to become, it quakes and morphs into their graves without hesitation.

As will I.

I was told that it is dangerous to let my voice be heard.

Is that because it is threaded with poison?

Or is it because you are the poison and I am the antidote for other victims?

Nonetheless, I will unmute myself.

I will speak with soft words of the harsh reality.

I will bring a weighted blanket to put out the flames you ignite.

I will cry many tears but this time, you are not the cause.

I will wear a smile whilst your lips quiver with anxiousness.

Like my lips did when you played my skin like a grand piano.

You have played me off key.

When you told me to keep my words hushed, the silence nearly killed me.

And so, I have revived my name from the secretive and silent to the strong survivor.

I was told I was as strong as oceans.

This time I believed it.
