The day of the engagement party finally came. Evie was upset. That was blatantly obvious. We had kept the engagement party a secret from the public. Very few people actually knew.

The 5sos guys flew in last night along with Calum's parents. His mom actually came, despite her absolute disregard and hatred for me. I wanted to do my best to show her that I could be good for Evie. I didn't know how, I just knew I needed to. It was so difficult to get people to see that, for whatever reason.

The lads helped me fix up the backyard for the party. Evie and the 5sos guys fixed up all the food. That probably wasn't the best idea, since Evie can barely cook. I love her, but her cooking abilities start and end with breakfast foods.

We set up tables and umbrellas. We placed out tablecloths and plastic cutlery. The food was set up nearly on a table.

"You seem tense." Zayn said. "You alright?"

"Evie's mom literally hates my guts. But now Evie and I are engaged. I want to get her to like me."

"So it's not wedding jitters?"

"Of course not. I'm not nervous to marry Evie."

The backyard was transformed from boring to extrordinary. My family showed up half an hour before the party started. Greg and Denise brought Theo. Theo immediately stuck to Evie. Evie didn't mind. She loved Theo. They got along great. Greg and Denise even suggested a dinner date before they flew back to Mullingar.

The party went off with a bang. My family, Evie's family, and our closest friends were there. Paparazzi knew nothing about it. It was quiet and quaint.

"Do you like it?" I asked Evie, rubbing her back.

"Everything looks great." She kissed my cheek. "I'm going to wait until everyone leaves to kiss you properly."

I turned red. She stuck her tongue out at me and walked over to her brother.

I saw something move in the bushes. At first, I figured it was just our neighbor's cat. But, then I saw a flash. I walked over to the bush.

I stepped back, incredibly startled. Paparazzi had gotten on my property.

Suddenly there were a group of cameramen surrounding all of our guests. The happiness in Evie's face disappeared. Everyone became terrified.

My bodyguards, who I had invited for a night off, went into work mode and started pushing them off the property. Evie had always said that our relationship was one thing we could actually have just for ourselves. But, all those people had crashed the party.

In fact, they ruined the party so much that everyone left about ten minutes later. No one wanted to stick around. They felt violated.

I cleaned up the backyard as much as my tired body let me. The party would've lasted another few hours, but everyone felt dirty. I felt terrible. I didn't think anything could make me feel worse. Then I walked upstairs and found Evie crying. I sat on the bed next to her.

"I feel so violated." She cried. "I have no privacy."

I wrapped an arm around her. She laid her head on my chest.

"No one was supposed to know this was tonight." She choked. "We had it a secret. We told people that. And..." She unlocked her phone and showed me Twitter. "Now people are hating me because we're engaged. They think it's some publicity stunt."

I wiped her eyes. "It's ok."

"I specifically said it was private!" She raised her voice. "I've been planning! Mrs. Hood actually came!"
