Chapter 26: Yokai Pillar

[Rei's POV]

""Please allow Tanjiro to be reunited with his little sister, a demon."" She paused, I inched closer, very interested at what the former Hashira has written. ""Because of her mental fortitude, Nezuko has not lost her human emotions. Even when she was starving, she never devoured humans, and this remains true more than two years later."" Hinaki paused.

""Although the situation seems somewhat far-fetched, it is an indisputable fact. In the event that Nezuko does assult a human, Tanjiro Kamado, as well as Sakonji Urokodaki and Giyuu Tomioka, shall atone by commiting ritual suicide by disembowelment." Hinaki read out. I slightly gasped at the end, hearing that Tanjiro and Giyuu including their master will commit ritual suicide.

It was silent for a moment, suddenly, Sanemi breaks the silence. "So what if they commit suicide?" He questioned. I furrowed my eyebrows, "If they have a death wish, they can rot for all I care! This doesn't guarantee anything. Not by a long shot!" He sternly stated as only listened to them opposing.

"Shinazugawa is right! If she eats a human, we can't reverse that! We can't bring back the dead!" I heard Renguko agree before lowering my head a little bit. 'But..' I thought to myself as Kagaya suddenly spoke up. "You do have a point." He pointed out, as I stared at him. "We can't guarantee that she won't attack humans. We can't prove it." Kagaya paused.

"That said," He lowered his head a bit. "we also can't prove that she will attack humans." He pointed out, as I heard Sanemi's breath hitched. "The fact that Nezuko has refrained from devouring humans for over two years. Besides that she has three people willing to risk their very lives for her, including one more person." Kageya pointed out as Hinaki and Nichika lifted their heads toward me.

I flinched before waving my hand in front of me, furiously. Both of their smiles brightened a bit before looking back at the Hashiras in front of them. I sighed in relief as I almost got caught because of those two. "Those who reject this notion must offer an even more convincing argument." Kagaya stated as an aura of power radiated off of him.

"Do you all have the will to do so? Also, there's something I'd like to relay to you, my children. Tanjiro here has encountered Kibutsuji." Kagaya announced as each Hashira, including me, gasped. "No, impossible! Even when no Hashira has ever crossed paths with him?" Uzui questioned before turning towards him, accidentaly pushing Mitsuri. All the others turned towards him as I sent Bakeneko to help Mitsuri up.

I watched as Bakeneko flew towards her before sitting right in front of her head. He purred, making Mitsuri look up to see him. She flinched before grabbing as she tightly enwrapped him with her arms, giving him a tight hug. Bakeneko choked up before turning to look at me. 'Rei-sama... help.. me-' He asked as Mitsuri tighten her grip on Bakeneko.

I snickered quietly as I noticed that the others were bothering Tanjiro with questions. I sighed before standing up on the tree branch and softly landed on the ground behind them. At that moment, I quickly hid myself behind the tree that I was just on.

"Kibutsuji has sent pursuers after Tanjiro. Though the purpose may be simply to silence him, this has also opened him up to your pursuits. I don't want to squander the chance. I also believe something's goint to happen to Nezuko at Kibutsuji never saw coming." Kagaya explained as I watched him explain from behind the tree.

"Can you try to understand?" I saw him ask the others. "No. I can't, Oyakata-sama." I heard Sanemi disagree as I looked at him. "If it were a human, I'd be okay with letting it live, but a demon is a different story! Not after all that we, the Demon Slayers, have gone through in combat! Not after so many people have lost their lives! It's unacceptable!" Sanemi furiously explained.
