amelia nervously prepared herself for the ravenclaw party. she wasn't exactly known as being a party animal, but she felt better knowing that her friends would be by her side.

amelia slipped out of her gryffindor robes that she had been wearing all day, and put on a more casual outfit. she chose a turtleneck sweater, plaid pants, and healed boots. as she finished getting ready, she heard a knock at the door of the girls dorm.

"amelia, it's me. now, hurry and answer the door before snape finds me knocking on a girl's foor." she heard fred's voice from the other side of the girl's dorm. she quickly ran to the door, opening it as quietly as possible. she grabbed fred's arm, pulling him into her room.

opposite genders were forbidden to visit each other's dorms, but fred didn't really seem to care. he often visited amelia and the rest of the girls, even if he was disobeying a couple rules in the process.

"wow, you look.." fred finally took a look at amelia now that he was safely inside. "beautiful." he smiled at her.

she couldn't help but feel butterflies fluttering in her stomach. "you don't look half bad yourself, weasley." she laughed, lightly hitting his arm. fred wore a striped button up, and amelia couldn't help but acknowledge the fact that he did look quite nice. "let me just grab my things and then we can go." amelia said, grabbing her phone and checking her makeup one last time before making her way to the door.

fred began following her, but amelia stopped him before he reached the door that led to the common room. "wait, let me make sure that the coast is clear before you come down." she said, gently closing the door behind her. fred patiently waited for her to return, and when she did, she announced that he was free to follow her.

the two walked side by side down the empty corridors of hogwarts. they walked in silence for a moment, amelia fidgeting with the ends of her sweater. "don't be nervous; you'll be okay, yeah?" fred checked on amelia as they reached the door of the ravenclaw common room. amelia nodded, grateful that she had fred by her side as they stepped inside the crowded room. the pair immediately began scanning the crowd, looking for their friends.

"they're over there," amelia said, pointing out neville, luna, george, and daisy in the crowd. fred nodded, grabbing amelia's hand as they made their way through the crowd. the entire room was packed with hogwarts students, all different ages from different houses. amelia and fred weaved through the various groups of people until they made their way to their friends.

"it's about time you two get here!" george said, making his way towards amelia. amelia stood on her toes, hugging him, then neville, luna, and daisy.

"we were beginning to think that you wouldn't show!" daisy laughed, hugging her friend.

"you know how long it takes this one to get ready," fred laughed, nudging amelia with his arm. amelia laughed in response, taking in the magical air of hogwarts. she felt right at home with her friends, but she still felt suffocated by the large crowd.

after what felt like hours, amelia needed to take a breath of fresh air. "hey, fred!" amelia almost screamed at her friend. the music playing throughout the room was pretty much drowning out any other noise. "i'll be right back, i'm just going to step outside for a moment."

fred nodded in response, and amelia made her way to the door. by the time she finally reached her destination, it felt as if she had ran a marathon — she was completely exhausted. she opened the door and stepped outside in one swift moment. and just like that, she was back in the empty hallway of hogwarts. she took a few steps down the hallway, and then pressed her back against the cold, stone wall. she was finally able to take a deep breath.

"not enjoying the party?" she heard a voice call out. she was almost frightened, she thought that she had been alone. after all, almost the entire student body had just been in the ravenclaw common room. "me neither, i'm not one for parties."

then, she saw him. in the darkness, draco malfoy stood standing in front of her. she questioned how she didn't recognize him sooner, his platinum hair shining in the light of the lamps that lined the corridors.

she gulped, nervously fidgeting with the ends of her sweater as he looked her up and down. "i just needed a moment of fresh air." she finally worked up the courage to respond to his initial question.

"yeah, i get that. back home, my parents throw parties all the time. i hardly know the people who attend. i always end up in the gardens alone." he kept talking, making his way next to her. he pressed his back against the wall and crossed his arms in front of his chest. he was rather intimidating.

"i'm amelia." she had almost forgotten to introduce herself.

"i know." he quickly responded. amelia took another deep breath. she wasn't sure if she would rather be here or back at the party. "i'm draco."

"i know." she said, mocking him. he let out a small chuckle. the two went back to the silence that had consumed them moments before.

"well, um- i should probably head back in there. my friends are waiting on me." she finally said, after moments of awkward silence.

"alright. i'll see you around, amelia." he said, not even looking at her. he made her nervous. like- almost more nervous than snape made her. and that was saying something.

without saying another word, she made her way back into the common room, still trying to process the events that had just occurred. she felt as if she was experiencing some weird acid trip. that entire conversation was so bizarre, it didn't feel real.

"ams!" she heard fred call out for her. she could spot him in the crowd as he was about a foot taller than everyone else in the room.

"hi, freddie." she said as she reached him. "did you miss me?" she asked, moving closer to him.

"more than anything!" he said, wrapping his arms around her waist. "the separation caused me physical pain, amelia. you have no idea what you do to me." he joked, spinning her around.

she laughed in response, but she could feel that something was off. just then, she looked to her right and in the distance she could see draco malfoy.

and he was staring directly at her.
