The pack was now surrounding the cabin.  The Alpha came storming in the front door, calling for someone to fix the electricity.  When the lights came on the carnage came into view.  Dead bodies all around.  Alpha went to each one and forced them to change to human with his alpha powers. His eyes filled with tears as he found his son.
One of the warrior women escorted me to my bedroom to change and get dressed.  We went back downstairs to talk to Alpha, where he was pacing in the front yard.  To get to him we had to walk through the living room past the bodies and blood.
He was silent for a while.  Staring at the ground.  Finally without looking at me he asked, "what happened here tonight?"
"When I came to the cabin to meet the contractor you called he was there, the lion, he said his name was Frank."
"I didn't call.  Your Luna did.  The contractor was supposed to be a woman named Connie."
"Charlie was here all day, but left when Mason came."
"What was Mason doing here?"
"He came with food.  He wanted to talk.  He's the one who told me they weren't the contract company he used.  They must have heard him because they turned off the power, and attacked."
"They must have been here to attack when you were alone.  They attacked early because they'd been caught."
"I think that too." I said.
"Let's go back to the pack house and talk to your Luna.  See if we can find out how Frank got involved."
Before we left they started carrying bodies out of the house to lay on the front lawn.  I stared at Mason.  Looking at his open blank eyes.  I was both heart broken and relieved.  If the bond had been stronger I might have died with him.
The trip back to the pack house was made in my car, with Alpha sitting shot gun.  Neither of us talked.  When we got there, most of the pack was waiting in the living room.  They all started talking at once, yelling questions and gasping when Alpha told them what happened.  I couldn't hear them though. It was like my ears were numb.  My brain was numb.  My body was numb.
"Chloe?  Chloe.  Chloe!" Some shouting finally came through.  I looked up to see the Alpha addressing me.
I didn't talk, just nodded my head in acknowledgement of him.  His words were meaningless, but I followed his gesture to his office.  He sat me down in the couch there, and then left.  I could here him shouting for Victoria, the Luna.
I don't know how long it took him to come back, but it felt like a long time.  When he came in he was holding a letter.
