A Painted Future
A stream of waves
Over our dream of the sky
Washing the paint from the wall of tomorrow
The echo of their fall
Grated harshly
Against our hearts
We only had so much paint
To change the world
And heavy skies
Threatened to break
Overshadowing our dreams
With tomorrow
Clinging to the silver lining
Of a fragile hope
Following the pulse of our thoughts
We painted again
Letting our love
Decorate the walls of time
We painted our prison
With the hope of tomorrow
Where the sky
Was blue above our fingertips
And the moon held back
The tides of woe
We wished to rest
In the calm of a moment
Uninterrupted by the fear of a damaged future...
But an inky sun rose
Smothering our dreams
With its darkness
Running its stifling tears
Down our future
Covering our life
But we rose again
To paint our dreams
Sharing our hope with our neighbours
