Dictionary of Laughter

Can I tell you the colours of laughter

How it shades in the outline of time

Can I show you the feel of its moments

How it falls how it feels its sublime

Like a waterfall in spring

When the rains have left their throne

Joyful laughter falls into the air

Freshly birthed emotion

Rolling on and on into the night

Pealing forth anew every second

Overtired hearts rejoice

Jokes shared friend to friend

A slight breath could dissipate it

The small timid laughter of the shy

Treasure its softness, let it linger

They're brave to let it by

Loud and high but full of excitement

A child's laugh is so unique

It bursts forth for no reason at all

Every time they go to speak

Hard, forceful laughing

Bursting red, like thunder in the air

Mocking, arguing, swirling in rage

A tornado of anger

As dark as the darkest of nights

A chasm of evil intent

Shredding the air without mercy

Laughter that does not relent

A bulldozer of noise

Tearing down the weak and afraid

Block your ears ignore its sound

May those mocking laughs be silenced

Wild, uncontrollable, frantic

The crackling of the insane

Don't judge too harshly their voices

You do not know their pain

How dark a laugh can be heard

What a waste of oxygen

But how sweet is the laughter of the happy

We need to hear it more often

But there is a laughter

Unmentioned as yet

Its just as sweet and lovely:

The silent one in the heart

You can't hear it but

The small smile that creeps on a face

Lighting up their features

And sometimes impossible to erase

Smile and laugh my fellows

Let the colour of joy stain the air

May happiness come from your heart

Rejoice at all things fair
