Hope You Won't See Me
With that waking breath, I hope
As I lay in the dark, I hope
Hope as you sleep, blissful in your knowledge,
Hope that your eyelids protect the idle reflection I see in your eyes
I hope, I'll see it again
I hope, I'll see it on the counters of your kitchen
Hope it's there with me as I prepare for the day
And hope you'll smile as it fails to surprise you in this dark room
If lost, I'll hope to find it soon,
I'll hope it's there in the rearview mirror
Hope it's on the window of some other
Hope it burns bright as it screams from the blueness of your eyes
So I wait alone, and I hope
Hope that you'll open your eyes and see
See not the hope, but this reflection
And I hope it remains asleep under closed lids in this dark room
