Peter had been Spiderman for almost two years now, and Tony's intern for one. He had grown quite close to his mentor/boss/whatever and had come to see the man in a new light. However, he didn't want to say anything for fear of making Mr Stark uncomfortable, as he clearly didn't feel the same.

Tony, however, had no such qualms about admitting that he saw the kid as a son. Or at least, he didn't after Peter wore his self-restraint thin through a series of frustratingly oblivious moments.

"Hey, Mr Stark!" Peter called, dropping his backpack as he entered the lab at the end of the school day.

"Hey kid, how was school?"

"Good, thanks! You know how they released that Lego Avengers range?"

"No way! It's not like you've told me that a hundred times already!" Tony said fondly, voice thick with sarcasm.

Peter paused his bouncing to shoot Tony a dirty look, then kept going.

"Ned got most of them for his birthday at the weekend and he's invited me over and guess what Mr Stark there's a Spider-Man LEGO!" He brandished a small red and blue mini figure. "I have my own LEGO set Mr Stark, how cool is that?!"

Tony's heart melted and he resolved to buy the entire Avengers lego range for the kid as soon as he could, as well as commission extra Spidey sets.

"That's pretty cool Pete," Tony agreed. "But for the last time, I really wish you'd stop calling me Mr Stark!"

"But Mr St-"

"Ah-ah."

"Mr-"

"Try again!"

"Fine. Ton-"

"Nope."

"What am I supposed to call you?" Peter fretted. "Iron man?" He tried.

"Lord, no!"

"Why can't I just call you Mr Star-"

"NOpE!"

Peter was close to tears.

"Wha-"

"Here's a clue: it begins with a D..."

There was a moment of silence, then Peter's eyes bulged wide. Tony smirked, waiting for his kid to say something.

"I... I..."

"Go on, kid," Tony encouraged.

"I am SO SORRY!" Peter half sobbed. "I completely forgot about your doctorate Dr Stark! Why didn't you say sooner? How can you ever forgive me?"

Tony blinked, half exasperated and half awed. Well, mostly incredulous actually, but still, nobody EVER remembered his doctorate. It just made him love the boy more.

"Kid, you don't have to call me Dr Stark."

"No sir I completely understand why you didn't want me to call you Mr after all those years of study I probably really offended you I mean you're a genius how did I manage to forget about all your qualifications you must be..."

Peter was still rambling when Tony walked away in despair.
